Weekend Update

1. I know it’s winter where a lot of you are, but it’s getting warm where I am and so I have been eyeing spring dresses, including this nice cotton/linen peasant dress from Madewell.

This is the sort of dress I’m always hunting for at Anthropologie but for some reason whenever I try it on there’s something off, like too many ruffles. Do any of you have this experience? Anyway, I saw this dress on someone at a baby shower recently and it looked great on her. And it was comfortable and she said she loved it. And I felt it and it was super soft. This is the sort of easy piece that isn’t super flashy but which you’ll find yourself wearing tons during the summer because it’s just so simple and relaxed. I like the natural fabric, too.

By the way – I was going to share a few other dresses today too, but by the time I did this post, they were all sold out! I was surprised, since it’s February. Is everyone else shopping for dresses too?

2. I like this (new to me) feature at Fashionista – “How I’m Making It”, which features interviews with people in fashion about how they came to the current point in their careers. Good for a nice browse!

3. A really interesting article from NY Times about “daytime” professional styling – They Only Look Casual. You know who I’m always curious about? Jennifer Garner. She always looks so perfectly casual, the chic yet on the go mom…but yet she has some really luxe pieces. Is she ordering from Barneys in the wee hours of the night? What’s going on??

4. You may or may not have already seen this interview with Quincy Jones, via Vulture, floating around your social media networks, but it really is super super good. Please read it. I can’t wait til I’m 85 (please let me be around) and can talk like this. Why can’t I talk like this now? Ugh. Read it!

5. This week I’m recommending Home Game, by Michael Lewis.

I had actually read this a while back, but forgot about it until a reader also mentioned it in a comment. I first Home Game at my local bookshop, and was surprised because I’m a big Michael Lewis fan and usually buy whatever he puts out pretty quickly, but hadn’t heard of this one. And this was actually about parenting!

Like all of Lewis’s books, Home Game is well written and engaging, but with that extra bit of the personal (which I really enjoyed). Lewis is at his most wry/humorous self here, and I was able to both relate to a lot of his own experiences as a father, as well as understand more of my own husband’s experience as well. Highly recommended, for non-parents and parents alike, though I think new parents will especially get a kick.

I am definitely buying dresses. It’s still dreadfully cold here on the East Coast so it’s like a reminder to myself that eventually Spring will come and I won’t be cold all the time, hahaha.

TOTALLY. I didn’t mention it but the woman who I saw wearing it had just given birth, haha. And I still want it!

Ahhh I used to always be buying dresses, but am still nursing (and hanging onto 10+ lbs of baby weight), so who knows when I’ll do any real clothes shopping next 🙁

Oh! Forgot to add that my work did a fundraiser with Jennifer Garner and (not surprisingly) she is the NICEST, SWEETEST, MOST GENUINE person ever! Wishing her all the best in her love life (I know, I know – like Jennifer Aniston why do we always feel like a woman needs a partner to be “truly” happy/fulfilled…)
