Weekend Update

1. This week, I’m sharing an adorable cashmere hoodie from Chinti & Parker.

I’ve been eyeing this hoodie for some time, and I think I might pull the trigger soon. It’s very annoying, because this is the sort of brand I like to find on sale, but for some reason I want to wear this now. The stars remind me of a Chanel star cardigan I missed out on a few years back, which I’ve been afraid to buy eBay because there’s tons of fakes. What’s even more irritating is that Nordstrom has the black on sale, for 40% off (though the retail price is strangely different), and I always prefer to buy from Nordstrom (though NAP is a close second). After trying out the black however, my heart is set on the gray.

2. An interesting (and slightly gossipy) article from Bloomberg, about the “fall” of Travis Kalanick of Uber.

3. My favorite article this week (I know quite a few of you love these sorts too), from The Age, about the spending and cultural impact of Australia’s (very, very rich) Chinese immigrants.

4. At the NY Times, Vanessa Friedman covers Couture Fashion Week, starting with the viral Instagram Stories controversy involving Miroslava Duma and Ulyana Sergeenko: At Couture, Lofty Traditions Face The New Swiftness of Fury.

5. This week I read Redeployment, by Phil Klay.

I’ve had this book for some time, and to be honest had been dawdling because often times after a long day I just want some light reading. I finally started earlier this week however, and was glad I did. The word redeployment refers to when a soldier returns home from war; as the author, Phil Kay, is a former Marine who served in Iraq, he is definitely qualified to write on this topic. And he his writing is beautiful. I will say that this is a serious, sometimes heavy book – you will come away having learned a little bit about what it’s like to serve in war. Highly recommend Redeployment, especially for fans of short story collections and of the work of Tim O’Brien.
