Weekend Update

1. Have you heard of All Birds? I had peripherally, but had never ordered until I recently saw a testimonial from a friend (hi L!). And immediately bought these loungers.

I’m pretty sure these are the sort of shoes my husband will automatically hate (but sometimes I’m surprised) but either way footwear that looks this comfortable…I was going to order immediately, as I haven’t yet been able to pull the trigger on these Birkenstock clogs. I read some reviews that the shoes fall apart easily…so will report back on my experience!

2. When I’m trying to find good articles and there’s nothing really great out there, I always go back to the Vanity Fair archives. Do you remember the Bettencourt affair? I could read a whole book about this topic. Actually, I think I will.

3. What do you think of this article, via The NY Times, calling for the end of high heels? I don’t really wear high heels anymore except for when it’s very specific occasion. Three inches is my “nicer dinner/date night” height now. What about you?

4. Have you heard of birth tourism? An interesting article, via The WSJ, about the island where Chinese mothers go to deliver American babies (though please note – I always stay away from the comments section of pieces like these).

5. This week, I read The Dirt, by Mötley Crüe (and Neil Strauss).

I have almost zero interest in glam rock/heavy metal (my taste is embarrassingly poppy and I am fairly up to date on the dating status of Selena Gomez/Justin Bieber) and I never thought I would read a book about Mötley Crüe. Yet I found this book GREAT. It’s very well written, for one, and together each of the little vignettes from the band members really worked wonderfully together to tell the story of this band. After reading it I had great respect for the artists that made up this band and spent a good half hour YouTubing videos. The Dirt is highly recommended.

    Dear Katherine,

My friends and I would love to wish you and your family the most wonderful Holiday and a very Happy New Year!

Thank you for all your hard work – we all love to read your posts while we may not always (or ever for some of the more shy ladies comment) we are deeply appreciative of all you do!
    🙂

Love the loungers – look so chic!

I am intrigued by your book selection as I do like a few of their songs (LOL! You’d never guess!) Thank you for that! It’s so refreshing that you possess such a broad and diverse selection of reads – we all love it! We have joked about starting our own FF Book Club of books you’ve read! 😉

    xx

Agree with the above comment by Ava! Thank you so much for making the time in your busy schedule for us and always finding such interesting topics to post about! I read all of your blog posts (even though I only comment once in a while)!

I used to only buy high heels in my 20’s, but rarely wear any of them now 🙁 It’s too much work lol.

Merry Xmas to your beautiful family and hope you get some nice gifts from Mr. Feather 😀

All Birds are amazingly comfortable— I wear them all the time, and have tossed them in the washer at least 6 times in the past six months (muddy dog walks) and they look as good as the new pair I bought my wife for Christmas. I really recommend. Also have the Birkenstock clogs, they are great “running into the garage to grab something” type shoes but not as easy to walk in long distances. I don’t wear shoes in the house but the clogs are always by the door so I can step out and get the mail, etc.

Yes, thank you for taking the time to create such wonderful content for all of us!
I’m also eagerly awaiting your Allbirds update – I have been eyeing them for a while. Facebook seems to know that as a new mom I’m in the market for comfortable shoes because I’m always seeing (and often end up purchasing) such ads in my feed now. I recently got some Birdies and Time shoes as a result, both I really like.

Allbirds are so comfy! Bought the wool runner version for a recent trip to Europe and they were so comfortable, no need to break them in at all. They also kept my feet warm and dry even on days when it was cold and a bit rainy out. After the trip, I threw them in the washer and they look as good as new.

I’m sure you will enjoy wearing them!

P.S. Been reading your blog for years and love it!

Happy holidays! Thanks so much for keeping up your blog – it is such a joy to read. Very curious about the All Birds too, especially to see if they are too overwhelming on a petite frame. Hope they are great because I am super curious myself.

Happy New Year! I strongly echo the previous comments – Thank you for always taking time to post interesting articles to read. I am intrigued by your choice of book and would check it out! I am not a Motley Crue fan but I love some late 80s early 90s Guns n Roses.
