Weekend Update

1. My current favorite item from J.Crew (there’s quite a few), is this great swing sherpa jacket.

I have a thing for denim sherpa jackets – I still wish I had my first one, an Abercrombie model I splurged on in high school (though I would never be able to fit in it). I love the swing silhouette of this version from J.Crew – a fresh take and the price is reasonable for a piece of outerwear that will keep you warm through fall and winter.

2. The best article I read this week is an old one (14 years old!) , via The New Yorker, called The Marriage Cure. A fascinating read, but make sure you have an hour or so blocked out! Worth it.

3. Do you worship at the feet of Lauren Santo Domingo? I will fully admit that I do, and thus enjoyed this piece, via the FT, A Long Weekend in Cartegena.

4. Ronan Farrow’s follow up piece in The New Yorker, Harvey Weinstein’s Army of Spies.

5. This week I finished The American Heiress, by Daisy Goodwin.

I actually found this book kind of by accident – I was originally looking to order American Heiress, about Patty Hearst, and was directed to this book instead on Amazon. I decided to order it, and was happily surprised. The book tells the story of Cora Cash, an American heiress who goes “shopping” for a title in Europe. I would describe it as “guilty pleasure” historical fiction, though I wouldn’t take that to mean it isn’t well written, because it is. If you like Downton Abbey, and don’t mind (or relish!) a soapy plot, I would highly recommend The American Heiress.

I also enjoyed An American Heiress — have had you a chance to read Bunny Mellon, The Life of an American Style Legend? I found it to be fascinating and well done.

Glad I’m not the only one obsessed with Lauren Santo Domingo. She is just SO chic! Especially now that I’m a mom, I’m just in awe of her. I can’t imagine her ever wearing sweats watching guilty pleasure TV. But I’m sure she has a lot of help…
