Weekend Update

1.Do any of you have a Simon Miller bag?

A wonderful friend recently sent me the very excellent Bonsai bag in the 20 size (highly recommended – I think it looks better in person, and the wooden handles are a great detail), and now I’m obsessed. Although I know I’m a few seasons behind on this one (how come whenever I look up something I like, all I find are articles dated at least a year back naming it as an “IT” item)?

2. If you read one article I recommend this week (and have some time) – make it this one, via The NY TImes. How To Get Away With Murder in Small Town India.

3. Thank you to Alice for this link, also from The NY Times, about the trend of pawning Birkins. I dream of finding a pawnshop with tons of deals on Van Cleef goodies….I’m not holding my breath.

4. An interesting article, from Racked, about one designer’s business in custom clothing. I love this! I always dream of being able to place custom orders and choose fabric, like you can do in Hong Kong. Do any of you buy/order custom clothing?

5. This week, I’m reading Back to Blood, by Tom Wolfe.

I am a Tom Wolfe fan, but for some reason had no idea that he had released a new book nearly five years ago. Back to Blood takes place in Miami, and like traditional Wolfe, has many different intersecting characters and storylines, all interesting and fun (my favorite is Magdalena). Recommended, especially for existing Wolfe fans.

Oops. I just realized the image above is of the audiobook (and it’s read by Lou Diamond Phillips!).

There’s a high end pawn shop here in Scottsdale Arizona that has taken to advertising pawning Hermes and Chanel purses. I’m always tickled when I hear it. Now that bag is a real asset!! Happy Friday.

Audra’s pieces are just gorgeous. I recall my grandmother used to get all her clothes tailored and were mostly based on a designer item she loved. In the last year, I started making my own clothes because I realised there are certain silhouettes or clothing items i prefer and I found sewing patterns online and taught myself to sew them. I would love to take a draping course and take my sewing skills further.

I adore the Bonsai bag! I noticed ring-handled bags popping up about a year ago, but didn’t narrow down the Bonsai bag at the time. The closest I found was from Future Glory Co, but didn’t pull the trigger. Then last week saw your post with the green dress? And was more drawn to the Simon Miller bag the model is using – the same Bonsai bag your talking about in this post! Did you notice as well? Anyway, I’m hesitating because it’s just so small, but it fills the Picotin-ish hole in my life I think I have.

The article about India just broke my heart. It’s really sad that this is the state of affairs for women in rural areas.
