Weekend Update

1. Sharing an adorable romper from Alice & Olivia, now on sale.

Alice & Olivia, on sale for $200

I have a special place in my heart for these sort of easy resort pieces which look cool and breezy yet have some definition in the waist. I bookmarked this A&O piece a while ago, and it finally went on sale. Also available at Neiman Marcus, in more sizes.

2. I received so many emails after my Life, Child Free post that I wanted to share this interesting article via The Economist that I read, about why couples should not be criticized for not having kids.

3. Should I pretend that crowds are why I won’t be visiting Venice anytime soon (instead of the true reason, my terror of transatlantic travel with two?). World travelers, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this fascinating article, via The NY Times.

4. I love these sorts of true crime articles – check out this piece, via The New Yorker, about a dentist’s murder trial in New York.

5.  This week I finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, by Gail Honeyman.

Eleanor Oliphant is one of those novels with a “quirky” main character, which I have to admit I usually don’t like, maybe because I’m a terrible person. But I really didn’t mind Eleanor Oliphant, and actually quite liked the character, who I’d describe as your friend who doesn’t know how to read social cues and just blurts out whatever blunt tidbit they’re thinking. I recommend Eleanor Oliphant for anyone looking for a good beach read, a feel good story which isn’t too precious.

    Hi Kat,

Big congratulations for your new baby ! I hope you everything will be settled soon and just enjoy every precious moments of it. Iam glad that you posted about Venice during summer. I didnt know it would be very crowded. I went there on end of November and it was not crowded at all. There are some tourists but nothing like on your pictures. I was planning to go back to Venice soon, so it is good to know i should avoid summer at all costs. Winter all the way and the water is so much better in color. It was dark emerald green, not muddy brownish green. And the buildings too hold more mystique and gothicky, which I love, during winter.

Hi Katherine – I just got back from Venice and actually read that article in my hotel. It was a last minute addition onto a 2 week trip to Italy. Venice is lovely early in the morning and later when the cruise ship people leave for the day. But mid day it’s just terrible, the tiny lanes are overrun with people. There are also too many tacky tourist shops, so while I’m glad I saw it I doubt I’ll ever go back. Such a shame that they’ve been unable to preserve of the identity of this little treasure!

Venice is a place that exist only for torists. It was like this when I visited it in the 80:s and it’s the same today. I think it’s always been a strange place.
