I get asked all the time for my favorite “mommy” bag –
And now that my son is (nearly) two and I’ve just had another, I have to say, it’s the Hermes Evelyne.
To be specific, in clemence, and for my frame, in the PM (29 cm) size.
It’s the perfect bag. The outside pocket (which I wear facing out, though I really don’t care which way the “H” faces, it’s your choice), is perfect for keys, phone, tissues. The larger compartment fits wipes, a spare diaper, random toys, snacks, my wallet, and a little zip cosmetics pouch. And there’s still more room.
I like it so much, that I added a second one (my first one is black – you can see the review here). I’ve worn the heck out of the black one – it has by far the best “cost per wear” out of all my bags. Since I’m boring, I picked another neutral for number two – Etoupe. Actually it was my excellent husband who picked this up for me in Europe, where apparently the PM size is running quite low these days (especially in France) – probably due to the low euro.
The Evelyne doesn’t replace a diaper bag, but I think you’d be surprised by how much it does fit. The PM size is perfect for all frames, especially smaller ones, and it doesn’t weigh you down. And the thick canvas strap is super comfortable across the body.
What’s your favorite running around town/mommy bag?

July 31, 2017 at 10:23 amI have never ventured into H bags, though I love the twillys and bracelets. I have considered the Evelyne before, but I just can’t get over the “saddlebag” look (funny, because I know that things of an equestrian nature are a huge part of the H heritage). I feel as if I’ll look like I have a feedbag strapped on. I do admire it on others, though, and this color is gorgeous!
Hope all is going well with the new addition! Can’t believe you are blogging during these early days! 🙂

July 31, 2017 at 10:55 amYes hands down the best bag to carry when I’m out with my two girls. Loved it so much that I now have 3 Evelynes! 🙂

July 31, 2017 at 2:56 pmI was crazy and used a Birkin 40 as my mommy bag…hahahah totally insane. My wrists and back paid the price after about 8 months….

July 31, 2017 at 5:23 pmAs a mommy to a 6month old baby, I just picked up the Sac de Pansage Grooming canvas bag as my diaper bag. It is absolutely perfect: large open tote style, optional shoulder strap, dark green khaki canvas, outside pockets, removable and washable orange insert with zipped pocket. My thoughtful SA recommended it to me. And I can’t thank her enough. My husband also approves and don’t mind carrying it for us!

July 31, 2017 at 7:49 pmThanks for this! Have been thinking about this particular bag. What are your thoughts on etain vs etoupe in clemence?
Katherine
July 31, 2017 at 10:16 pmI actually like Etain more but my SA advised it would be more difficult to get. Etoupe is great though if you wear a lot of warm tones.

August 1, 2017 at 9:26 amI agree. The Evelyne is fabulous and so easy in Clemence! Love how it’s so easy to access – and I use mesh zip pouches to further organize things by tissues/lip balm/santizer and card case/cash. It’s been so useful this summer running around on NYC taxis and the subway with my son! I can also place it right behind me on a restaurant chair -it’s been reasonably comfy (I don’t like to hang bags on chairs nor do I like putting them on the ground). I have two Evelynes, a GM II and a PM III. I feel the GM is a smudge too big for my frame. Love the smaller PM but the metal bits on the shoulder strap dig into my back. I’ve solved this by doubling up the strap and tying it with a twilly. Hope you are doing well 🙂

August 1, 2017 at 9:03 pmI have a story to share regarding the Evelyne. I was out for dinner toting the evelyne a year ago. When I reached in the open top of the bag looking for my wallet, it was gone!!! The pickpocket must’ve stole my wallet when I wore the bag crossbody and swung to the back. I was devastated cuz that was my favorite Kelly wallet in chèvre & rose tyrien. My advice to all open-top-bag owners: use an insert with zippers and secure your valuables inside the zipped compartments. Keep an eye when you are in the elevator or a crowded environment.

August 2, 2017 at 6:57 amOMG sorry to hear you lost your pretty (and expensive) wallet 🙁 Appreciate you sharing your story though, so we can be more careful now!

August 2, 2017 at 7:44 amI’m so sorry to hear that. Thank you for the good advice. I’m not always attentive when I’m running around.

August 2, 2017 at 9:25 pmThank you. I’m usually very mindful of my belongings. But I don’t know what happened that day, I must’ve gotten distracted. =( A friend of mine shared a tip with me: use a scarf to cover the things in the bag. So the contents are not visible from the open top. Even when someone tries to reach in for your stuff, she or he would have to go thru the scarf first. It’s not ideal but adds a layer of security for those who dont use bag inserts.

August 3, 2017 at 8:02 amI try to be careful about my things too, but yeah, I, for one, get distracted easily 🙁 So that happens. If someone stole my fave wallet (just a compact CC one), I would be so angry and gutted, so I can’t imagine how horrible that must’ve been for you. I love this tip; thanks for sharing! I hope you were able to find another wallet that you love!

August 3, 2017 at 2:44 amSorry to hear and I agree on using a scarf to cover the top as this is what I usually do.. throw in a 140 and we are all set to go! I also like to change from a K wallet to a Bearn or Compact Silk In when using the Evelyne so it stays more flat inside the bag.

August 3, 2017 at 7:57 pmThank you all. I hope everyone learnt from my mistake. And I’m sorry, Katherine, for hijacking your blog entry. Please enjoy the evelyne and congrats again on your baby =)

August 4, 2017 at 10:25 amNo, thank you for sharing your experience, it’s great feedback! You didn’t hijack at all! And I’m so sorry to hear about your wallet!

August 15, 2017 at 2:42 pmThank you. =) Your Evelyne would make a perfect diaper bag. Speaking of which, have you seen the Adada diaper bag from Hermes? It comes with a changing mat. It would be a nice addition to families with new borns.

August 5, 2017 at 6:30 amI love my evelyne as well! I actually never liked the evelyne..then I found a gold one for a great price one day but didn’t get it bc I was still not convinced I liked it all that much. My husband went back and picked it up for me as a gift. I started wearing it and realized it was really great!!!!! And now I love it..and want the tiny TPM one and another PM one as well. Lol.
