Weekend Update

1. I love wearing caftans around the house as pajamas/lounge wear – here’s one of my favorites, for a great price right now (under $40) from J.Crew.

Love the length of this one, as well as the slits – it can be hard to find a more “modest” length caftan that still is pretty without going too much into muumuu territory. I usually go for classic white but the navy on this one is gorgeous, and also not as sheer.

2.For anyone who watches Silicon Valley (TV show) – this slightly bizarre interview with TJ Miller, via The Hollywood Reporter, is a must read.

3. I liked this piece, via The NY Times, about shopping at Elie Saab. How I’d love to have a friend like Nick, to tell me gossipy bits about whether each piece is well priced or not!

4. A quick piece, via The WSJ, about designer heels that feel like Birkenstocks (this is like personalized click bait article titling to me). Kind of reminds me of Taryn Rose of olden times (anyone remember that brand? When it was priced around $400-$500)?

5. This week I finished The Force, by Don Winslow.

Don Winslow is one of my favorite writers, and I’ll pretty much read anything he comes out with, immediately. I pre-ordered The Force months ago and was so thrilled to see it arrive.  I was so excited that I stopped reading another book I was having a decent time with, just to start on this one.The blurb from Stephen King pretty much sums it up – The Godfather, but with cops.

I will say that my #1 Winslow work is still The Cartel – but The Force won’t disappoint any fans and is a fast, thrilling, well written read. Highly recommended! More, Winslow, more!

    Dear Katherine,

Haha! Yes! I remember Taryn Rose! Lol, I suppose Marion Parke is the TR for the new generation – especially given their styles looking similar to many other major luxury footwear brands’ styles. (Side note: while I am excited about MP and actually trying on her shoes to see if they genuinely allow me to not complain about what agonizing pain I am in – isn’t it interesting how the fashion industry picks and chooses when and where to complain about copyright issues? Again, I am not trying to offend anyone it is just an honest observation.)

    Also, did you know:

    and

and brands like Cole Haan have been investing in “sneaker tech” for a while – though I still find them too tight for my “man-feet” – lol.

Ooh, thank you for sharing the book rec – it looks like a fun read! I need to get that immediately! 🙂

    Hope you’re feeling well!

    xx

Thank you Ava!! Great point about fashion “picking and choosing” when to be insulted…ha.

Thanks for another great post! I found the TJ Miller interview strange as well… Did you happen to catch Kamau Bell’s episode about SF Chinatown? Hope you and your family are having a wonderful weekend! 🙂

Thanks for the heads-up on the caftan! I ordered it right away. J Crew can be hit or miss for me, but when they hit, they really seem to get it right. For example, I’ve been loving their skirts lately! Overall, I’ve felt that the quality is there, too.
