Some Sandal Reviews – Birkenstock and Blahnik

Sale PSA: There are some amazing designer reductions going on around the web. I’m still hunting, but a few treasures – this super classic black cashmere poncho by Tomas Maier, now 70% off (still full price at Barney’s!), a ruffled twill dress from Isabel Marant, now 70% off/$107, a beautiful lace v-neck dress from DVF, now 70$ off/$134, andΒ pastel suede Valentino ankle wrap ballet flats, now 70% off. Yes – all 70%!! And there’s so much more…

Today I thought I’d share some shoes I recently purchased, all three which I love. I did take modeling photos, but please have pity on my poor pregnancy cankles – to publish them would be to do the shoes an injustice, and my feet at this stage in my pregnancy are a memory I can do without.

Birkenstock Gizeh Soft Footbed in Copper. My love for the Gizeh style has been well documented (by myself) over the years, and I still haven’t found a better “multiple miles long walk” sandal. When I saw the soft rose gold color of these, I knew I had to order them – and I love that they have the soft footbed too! Why don’t more Gizehs come with these?

So far the white footbed has survived quite nicely, though I still have a beat up black pair that I use when going to dirtier destinations (like the farm with my son).

By the way, I should note that my husband is really, really not a fan of these. I usually try to consider his feelings but with these I just said – sorry!

Also, if out of stock, there are some on Zappos too, though inventory in general appears low.

Manolo Blahnik Atrita sandals. One of my favorite designer sale purchases of the season. Blahniks don’t always work for me, but these were comfortable out of the box. For some reason, the suede iteration is full price at both Barneys and Neiman Marcus but half off at Bergdorf (which I was happy about, because BG also ships tax free to California). Gorgeous, comfortable, and very pretty on the foot. I’d give these a try, especially if you like this type of sandal, and are a Blahnik fan.

Birkenstock EVA Madrid sandal. I ordered these on a whim because they were so inexpensive and I needed a pair of summer slippers for the house. Lo and behold – I’ve been very impressed! I would totally wear them outside, and they are the perfect beach/pool sandals. After a few days of wearing, the footbed had already conformed very well to my foot, and there was no uncomfortable break in. Total no brainer for under $30.

Have you picked up any sandal winners lately, either full price or sale? Please share!

I also love the Birkenstock gizeh and bought two pair this season! I also was excited when Steve Madden reintroduced the Slinky. It seemed everyone in NYC wore them back in the 90s.

Birkenstock has been my go to slippers for the past months and if they could only talk, I know, they been abuse. I don’t have the gizeh style yet, i might as well consider this to get next time.

Hope you are well so with the family

You know what sandals I love? Dr.Martens. They take some breaking in at first; but they are very comfortable and they look very high end avant garde.

Which pair do you have? The Clarissa ones look really nice, comfortable and pretty! Thanks for suggesting!

Sorry for the delay. I have two pair of the Romas in Black and Red. The Kennet and the Abella in black. I have flat feet and the older I get, I can’t wear heels. I am holding on to my Jimmy Choos, my Pradas and My Gucci heels. However, they hurt my feet a lot.

I’ve been looking at Docs lately actually (the boots). Glad to hear about their sandals too!

Hi Katherine! I recently purchased Elieen Fisher sneaker sandals. I really
Like them! They are prettier than they sound. I bought the pewter leather pair. My sister bought the taupe perforated suede pair. They are very comfortable! Hope all is well with you and yours!
