Weekend Update

1. I love, love eyelet dresses in summer so when I saw this one from J.Crew, I immediately checked it out. So pretty no?

Plus the price is quite good. Nicely under $100, lined, tall and petite versions, classic silhouette. I’d love the green but I think I’ll need to stick with petites on this one so will go with white. I only wish I could try it on, but I guess I’ll take my chances post partum. What do you think?

2. My favorite article this week, via NY Mag – The Accountant Who Tries to Keep Celebrities from Going Broke. Such a fun read!

3. The always fantastic Vanessa Friedman (I’m a fan girl) on The New Meaning of Fast Fashion. Do you need Gucci in 90 minutes? I just checked, that Gucci bag above could be in my hands in a little over an hour, only if I lived in Miami.

4. I’m sure most of you have read the news of Aaron Hernandez. I admit that I’ve always been fascinated by this story, and though I am not usually a Sports Illustrated reader, this is one of the best pieces on Hernandez that I’ve read.

5. This week, I finished The House of Mirth, by Edith Wharton.

I always try to read these sorts of “classic” books and usually start them, read the first five pages, and then give up or go watch Bravo. I was pretty sure this would also happen with The House of Mirthbut as I haven’t yet fully accepted myself as a total philistine, I gave it a go. And I have to say that I was really surprised – I loved it, and finished it in its entirety (I also then went out and bought the rest of Wharton’s work). The language was really beautiful and not too difficult to read, and the story was just so engaging. Loved it, and would love to hear from you if you’re a Wharton fan (the author, not the school).

That green Jcrew dress just arrived yesterday! Forget if you mentioned when you are due, but if you have any BF’ing to do this summer, this dress will come in handy. I am 5w pp w my second and got this since it buttons down – thought that would be better then any other hideous bf’ing dresses out there.

‘The House of Mirth’ is the only novel that made me cry when I completed it. It was so powerful! I also loved ‘Summer’ by Wharton as well. ‘The Buccaneers’ is more fun than any of her other works but it was not complete at the time of her death and was completed by another writer. Still, it’s a great portrait into NYC during the Gilded Age.

I love the eyelet dress! I’m going to check it out asap!
I loved Edith Wharton in college, especially House of Mirth. I also recommend the Age of Innocence, both the book and the beautiful movie by Martin Scorcese.

    Dear Katherine,

Please read The Age of Innocence – it’s so beautifully written and the movie (Scorsese) was very well done (albeit long for those w little patience; I’ve tried convincing friends to watch it and maybe two made it to the end).
I am so excited you like EW! 🙂 She even translates into other languages well!

The Aaron Hernandez story is so saddening . . . the whole situation is very sad for all involved.

I think the green J. Crew dress would look really great on you! Get both – the white and the green – problem solved! 😉

    Have a lovely weekend!

Edith Wharton is a delicious read, always! Check out her short stories too, and a good place to begin is Roman Fever. Oh my!,
