Weekend Update

1. I have a semi luggage addiction, which I have had to keep in check because I have too many addictions, and plus these luggage just takes up so much space (how do the Japanese collectors do it)? However I couldn’t help but post this gorgeous Globe-Trotter trolley! If I didn’t already have a few I would snap this one up!

I love everything about this trolley – the colors, which are totally standout, and of course that beautiful interior. Globe-Trotter has done a few of these collaborations with unusual interiors but this is one of the best I’ve seen. Just such a happy riot of color (now if only the price were happier…and I had a larger storage closet).

2. I know that we’re supposed to bemoan Amazon taking over everything, but I was actually excited to read this article on the WSJ, describing how Amazon will be launching its own bras. I still am looking for the perfect simple bras and if anyone can do it for a fantastic price to boot, Amazon can (plus I’d love their review system for bras!).

3. An insightful article via the always excellent Vanessa Friedman of The NY Times, about what Riccardo Tisci’s departure from Givenchy means for the larger fashion industry (did you know about Clare Waight Keller and Chloe? I missed this). Do you care about whether a house has a designer at the helm when you purchase items from the house (like the situation with Saint Laurent now)?

4. An interesting article, via Forbes, on The Ugly Unethical Underside of Silicon Valley. Fake it until you make it indeed!

5. This week I finished How To Lose Friends and Alienate People, by Toby Young.

This had been recommended to me by a reader, another “Conde Nastie” after I linked an article last week about Conde Nast that ran in the NY Times decades ago. I remember hearing about this book when it first came out years ago, and then again when the movie came out, but never got around to reading it, until now. I found it quite funny – a hilarious and often cutting take on life working at Vanity Fair, under Graydon Carter. Young really doesn’t spare any punches when it comes to eviscerating people (which always makes for good reading), and you learn a wee bit more about how the magazine industry works (just a tad). Recommended for those looking for a light, funny read, who don’t mind a hearty dose of British humor and whose favorite scenes on reality shows are the catty parts (that’s me!).

For great bras (and underwear) I highly recommned Natori. I struggled for years to find a quality bra (to the point price was an afterthought*), and found it with that brand.

*Within reason. There is no way to explain Agent Provocateur’s price tags, for example.

Love the globe trotter suitcase, though the price is ridiculous! I would only use it on train journeys or weekends away, could not possibly trust this sort of beautiful bag to airline handlers. Have you ever seen how they treat luggage?

I’m reading How to Lose Friends and Alienate People now and am enjoying it! The author does come across like he’d be mega annoying in real life though. A few months back (while on my breastfeeding and reading marathons) I read a lot of Jay McInerney’s books, so it’s funny to see him pop up here as a character.
