Weekend Update

1. For those looking for comfortable, gorgeous sandals for summer (and who don’t mind a designer price tag), I would highly recommend these lovely Valentino block heels.

I’ve never been a huge Rockstud wearer (nothing against them, they just didn’t speak to me and I figured I didn’t need another expensive habit in my life), but my shoe salesperson insisted I try these on because I’m always complaining about comfortable sandals. And wow, these are really comfortable, and gorgeous! Something about the 2 inch block heel, the soft leather, and the straps makes these really easy to walk in. I also love how the design makes them suitable for day and night.

There’s a higher heeled version which is also gorgeous, but not as comfortable. These are being added to my spring wish list, for sure.

You can also find them in black and pink, here, and in red at Matches (where you can see how they look worn). I’m normally a girl who always chooses black, but for some reason I keep going back to the brown.

PS: Are Rockstuds still “in”? Please inform me if not!

2. An article that’s been making the rounds lately that is an interesting read for anyone who hasn’t yet read it, via The New Yorker- Doomsday Prep For the Super Rich.

3. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on this piece, via The NY Times – Can Reed Krakoff Save Tiffany? I was quite disappointed in this choice, honestly. I love Tiffany and have nothing specific against Krakoff but I just didn’t feel they were the right fit. I would love for them to find some modern new Elsa Perettis and Jean Schlumbergers and Paloma Picassos instead of an overall artistic/creative director. But I hope that I’ll be proven wrong. Tiffany still has some of the best customer service out of all the designer brands that I’ve encountered by the way, and their prices can look downright reasonable next to Van Cleef!

4. An interesting and pop culture filled piece via Vanity Fair, How David Foster Became Patient Zero of the Kardashian Phenomenon. Definitely read if you’re a reality TV junkie, like me.

5. I was just complaining that I wanted to read more retail experience stories from Racked, and here they’ve served up just that, with Six Retail Horror Stories

6. This week I’m finishing up one of the eeriest books I’ve read in a while – Helter Skelter, by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry.

Helter Skelter is the story behind the Manson Murders, an event which I of course knew vaguely about in broad strokes, and nothing more. I had added it to my list a while back after I read The Girls, by Emma Cline, which is a fictionalized account of a girl who joins the Manson Family. Vincent Bugliosi, the author, was the lead prosecutor for the trial and thus has an intimate insider’s view of the entire crime, and takes you through it, from the awful murders themselves all the way to Manson’s conviction. Helter Skelter was fascinating, such an interesting read, and super creepy – I couldn’t read it at night after a while, unless my husband was nearby! Highly recommended for fans of true crime, though you may have already read it.

I’m so glad that you are warming up to Valentino Rockstuds. I love Valentino shoes. They are very comfortable compare to CL and other designer shoes. I have Rockstuds pumps, flat sandals, flat and booty. Love all of them equally and I can wear them for hours. Hoping to add block heels this summer to my collection. Yes, they are expensive but worth it because I can actually wear them unlike CL. lol…Then again I like having CL in my closet. Eyeing on these as well https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/646357 …..by the way love your blog

Thank you Khin! Maybe we will be twins on the block heels 🙂 Those pumps are lovely! Looks like they are quite popular as well.

Kat, I love the Valentino Rockstuds! The pumps and flats are my staple and I got them in almost every color. They are much cheaper in Europe. Also, when Matches/Farfetch hadn’t adjusted their US prices. Extremely comfortable and practical. The only thing is, due to the sharp toes, they can get scratched easily. Haven’t tried the sandals though. Thanks for the reviews.

I’m sorry! You know, where we are right now is a scary place, I try to think about small things I can just do for my family and enjoy our time…to do otherwise you can endlessly obsess and it can be very disturbing.

oh, please, dont’ be sorry. i didn’t mean it that way at all! it’s just the opening of the article reminded me of my crazy thoughts when i can’t run for longer than 2 seconds at the gym “How am i going to survive if i have to run”. I know it sounds crazy but i promise, i’m not crazy, just real scared about all kind of surviving environments. I don’t think i’m designed for it at all:) Never understood ppl who enjoy watching or reading about post apocalypses, that’s my worst nightmare. I too try to concentrate on small things every day, and understand that you can’t really control what you can’t control but articles like this definitely make it harder for me:) That’s why i unsubscribed from all the news in FB. Anyway, i hope you have a wonderful rainy day!

On the rockstuds, my personal opinion is that they’re kind of a classic now. I have the rainbow version of the block heeled sandals and agree; they are quite comfy + I love the way they look!

OMG I read Helter Skelter in the 80s (probably when I was in high school). You make me want to re-read it!

Oh the one other thing I should mention about the rockstuds, the studs do occasionally fall out. So buy them from somewhere local that has good customer service in case you need them fixed. The shoe manager at my local Neiman Marcus now knows how to reapply the studs himself.

I would love to get a pair of Valentino rockstuds. Does anyone know if they suit a wide feet? The local stores only carry a size 39…I usually wear 41 (heels) & 42 (flats) which means i have to order & pay for international shipping…

If you’re talking about the block heel rockstud sandals, I think a wide-ish foot is doable. If you’re thinking of the flats or kitten heels, I would say it’s less likely to work.

I would also like to know if the rockstuds are still “in”. I have been eyeing them for the last couple of years but keep thinking I missed my window and they’re passe. But maybe they’re here to stay and are considered classic now?
