1. It’s been a while since I looked at anything from Prada in terms of accessories (besides shoes of course), but this little wallet caught my eye the other day.
I think this wallet is a great and versatile little piece! I love the sleek silhouette, the fact that it has a few card holders inside, and the chic envelope shape. I also think the little zip pocket on the back is perfect for coins or a house key if you were to use this as a clutch. And the price is eminently reasonable. I only wish that it were thick enough to hold an iPhone…though I suppose it would then add cost and cause the design to lose some of that sleek envelope shape. Still, a nice contender for anyone looking for a sleek accessory for cards and cash.
2. An interesting piece via The WSJ about how shoes are helping luxury brands buoy up their sales. What do you think of this? Are you more likely to buy shoes versus bags or clothes these days? Maybe this is why some shoe prices have gotten out of control.
3. An excellent, gossipy article about via the NY Times: Climbing The Socialite Ladder, One Gala At A Time (really the title alone should be enough to entice you). The photo above is from the current day, by the way! At first I thought it was a vintage one from decades back!
4. Another great article, a fascinating piece (by the always excellent Robin Givhans) about how a speciality luxury boutique in Washington DC, Relish, thrives in today’s online shopping world. Loved the bit about the Dries Van Noten shoes, these little details are what make such articles so interesting to me.
5. This week I finished Shoe Dog, by Phil Knight.
As described on the front of the cover, Shoe Dog is a memoir by the founder of Nike, Phil Knight. I’m not an athletic person or a particularly big Nike fan, but I really enjoyed this book. Phil Knight tells a fascinating and compelling story about how he created Nike…his determination and grit in the face of near disaster over and over is truly admirable, and makes you think about how how hard you would fight for the ideas you believe in. Highly recommended, especially for those who love sports (or business related books).

January 6, 2017 at 2:58 pmI think the success of a store depends on how good its buyer is, specially on the high end. A good buyer generates excitement. It takes the pressure off sales associates, giving them freedom to express their opinions, which make them indispensable resource, generating loyal clients.
This year I spent more on shoes not because they’re cheaper than bags, but because shoes were really strong. Well, Gucci was really strong and for that they received a lot of my dollars.

January 7, 2017 at 1:15 pmI will buy a handbag over a luxury shoe 1st. And before the handbag, I would buy earrings, of course. Mainly because the handbags cost more than 18k earrings in most cases. I’ll buy the bag before the shoes because
I’ll get more wear from the bag. Also, luxury shoes are usually little works of art and I hate to think about how dirty the sidewalks and public restrooms are! I have been eyeing Gucci’s monogrammed leather Kelly bag. They have a medium size at Saks that is about 11 in. I agree with
TC, the Gucci collection has been really strong!
