Favorite Baby Products

Today I want to share with you some of my favorite baby products, that I’ve found over the past year. This post is long overdue and I apologize – I kept wanting to add more and more things to the list (and over time, also take some off!). I also always feel a bit nervous doing baby posts, since I know that they aren’t everyone’s interest. I hope this helps some of you who are expecting, and I’d also love to hear some of your favorite baby/toddler products as well!

freshly-picked-moccasins

Freshly Picked Moccasins: These are my favorite shoes for baby Feather and we have collected a ridiculous number of pairs now. They’re so soft, easy to wear, and are the only shoes he doesn’t actively try to pull on and off. The quality is great and the company has good customer service as well. And they’re so cute right??

Mia Mily

Mia Mily Hipster: We have the prior version of this carrier, and it is by far my favorite carrier product. Baby Feather LOVES it and will literally sit with excited anticipation as I put it on. I love it, and we use it all the time. This is a carrier for a slightly older baby – we started using this maybe around four months or so? But after we started, we never looked back! Do note that this is a slightly bulkier carrier due to the built in seat, which makes it tougher to just stuff into a diaper bag, etc. For a more traditional, softer carrier, we also have the Ergobaby Organic.

Skip Hop Diaper Backpack: Over time, I’ve come to realize that my favorite diaper bag is actually a simple backpack – the best way to carry tons of stuff without dragging down a shoulder. They’re fuss free and you can take them all over the playground. This Skip Hop one is one of the best ones I’ve found, with lots of goodies like netted packing cubes. I already have too many backpacks, otherwise I’d buy this one.

White noise machine: This is a must have. I’m sure all of you have one. If you haven’t yet, and you’re going to have a baby, get one. One of the essentials. I have a backup at all times, ready to go.

Little Giraffe Blanky

Little Giraffe Baby Blanket: I love the whole Little Giraffe line – all the blankets and items are high quality and beautiful. This is my son’s favorite lovey, and I love how easy it is to transport too (versus some giant stuffed animal!). Washes well, and makes a great baby shower gift, too.

My Brest Friend: The name makes the middle schooler in me snicker, but this is one of the best breastfeeding pillows. Get it! Buy it before you give birth so you have it right when you get home, it will make breastfeeding much easier.

Infantino Grocery Cart Cover: One of the most productive things we ever did, was turn our grocery trips into fun outings for baby Feather. We did it with this grocery cart cover- super handy, protects from all those gross germs on the cart, and makes for a nice cozy seat. We go to Costco each week now, using this!_5790279Trumpette Socks: The cutest socks ever. One of my go to baby shower gifts, and we always got compliments when baby Feather wore his (he’s now unfortunately outgrown them, and they don’t seem to make bigger sizes). The boy’s version are here.

Baby Einstein Take Along Toy: I didn’t want to recommend too many toys here, since along with clothing, they’re really so dependent on each family’s particular taste and style. This is one of the few toys I’d recommend to everyone, starting at quite an early age (unless you’re opposed to plastic – this bad boy is all plastic). It’ll save your life for those few necessary minutes when you need to distract your baby, and is small enough to tuck into almost any bag. I’ve seen this toy have a 100% hit rate with every baby or toddler that’s come across it.

Hanna Andersson Pajamas: I don’t buy a ton of items from Hanna, but these are hands down my favorite pajamas. I buy the one piece zip ups right now, but will likely transition soon to the two piece once baby Feather starts walking. They wash really well, are made out of organic cotton, and are excellent quality. They’ll also fit your baby for longer than other brands, because of how they stretch. A bit more expensive, but I think they’re worth it.

Waterproof Picnic Blanket: I keep this on the bottom of our stroller – easy to whip out if we want to have some fun on the grass at the park, or even on our lawn. Get one with waterproof backing because sometimes the grass can be wet, and babies crawl – lots! A useful item you can take to the beach, the park – anywhere!

Baby Care Play Mat: We use this every day, and it’s by far one of our best buys. We have friends that come over who bought smaller ones, and they all tell us that they wish they had bought this larger version. It’ll protect your floors, cushion your little one when they’re crawling or rolling around, and is large! I’m considering buying another one!

What are some of your favorite baby products? I’d love to hear!

We’re still pretty new at this. Our little is 11 days old but we purchased an iPad mini, it gets more play so far than anything else we’ve purchased. It’s kept me sane during feeding and great when stuck under the sleeping little. Our doula recommended the naturespace app for white noise, actual white noise makes me nuts and this app is recordings of real nature sounds.

We bought the Little Giraffe blanket in your recommendation. Had to by it in adult size my husband likes it so much!

I need a mini iPad too soon! SO useful, now I understand those parents that have an iPad for kid!

Nice list! I have an 8 month old and our favorites so far:
Hanna Andersson wiggle pants (and the classic stripey PJ’s)
    Primary.com basics
Zutano booties because they Do. Not. Come. Off. 🙂
Ikea’s LEKA activity gym (cheap yet sturdy, no too hideous, and the baby LOVES it)
    Baby Bjorn bouncer
Nose Frida (seems gross, but it’s really effective and actually not gross at all)
Baggu zip pouches filled with the essentials, in lieu of a baby bag

Kat, thank you – So timely:) Does he stay on the blanket though?? We don’t have any favorites so far;) The only thing that he likes is chewing on Ten little ladybugs board book. He had some interest in these blocks but i think i need to take them away for a while – https://www.amazon.com/B-Toys-One-Squeeze-Blocks/dp/B0030F67N6

We get similar socks for my kids from a brand called Jazzy Toes. They were originally a shower gift for my first child, and we’ve loved them so much we kept buying them in larger sizes. The bonus is that they sell 2 to 4 year old sizes on their website.

I used to spoil my nephew with Marie Chantal clothing from birth until he turned 4. Obviously, the mom was thrilled. But realistically, I don’t think the little boy really cared. Haha 😀

Kat – That SkipHop diaper backpack is very lightweight, zips open to offer wide access to the entire main compartment, and is large enough to carry lots of items for both baby and older toddler–highly recommend. Other items I like are the Primo EuroBath (can be used for infants until about 2+ years) and the Lotus travel crib (child sleeps on the floor so no weight limit as they age). I wish I knew about your carrier recommendation before–I always hated using carriers with both babies as none of them were comfortable for me!!

I used to buy the Hanna Anderrsson pjs when my girls when they were small. I thought they were so expensive until I bought a pair. They are so soft and warm and they really look new for many, many washes. Glad you found them!

I’m the same way, I thought that Hannas were expensive until I tried them!

Kat, do you put socks on little one when using these pjs? Or you are using the ones with feets? I’m trying to decide which ones to buy:) thanks!

Hi Irina! I use a sleepsack over the pajamas, so we don’t put socks on. These are awesome, you’ll love them!

thank you! i’ll probably buy the feeted one, even though it doesn’t look like it’s organic cotton(?)..he wont’ sleep in a sleepsack, and he wont’ wear the socks, and it’s getting cold during the nights now. Thank you again!

Love this list, Kat! The Baby Einstein toy has also been one of our favorites for our daughter (now 17 months old). Other standouts: Barefoot Dreams Chevron blanket, Zutano booties (warm and like the other commenter said, DO NOT COME OFF), Pediped shoes, H&M Organic Cotton basics (soft, washes well, mixes/matches with everything, great prices), Tea Collection clothing, ThinkSport baby sunscreen, and Baby Banana bendable toothbrush. We are also huge fans of the Dr. Browns natural flow *glass* bottles even though they have a million separate parts to wash, because they really helped minimize gassiness and reflux when she was younger.

A note about the Skip Hop bag…the straps are very wide apart, so they keep slipping off my shoulders (I’m petite, but a curvier friend had the same one and still experienced the same problem!) Also, both my friend and I had serious quality issues with the bag – within a month or two of normal use, the grab handle and backpack straps started tearing at the seams. Not impressed with this particular bag at all! Too bad, because I agree that backpacks are awesome for hands free, and this one is large, lightweight, and the packing cubes are pretty great.

I’ve tried the JuJuBe Packabe (an older style), which is convertible to a backpack. I do find it a lot heavier than the Skip Hop and the backpack straps are also uncomfortable, but the quality is WAY better. I’ve heard great things about the JuJuBe BRB, but it’s pretty pricey!

I was eyeing the moccasins on Baby Feather on Instagram! They are super cute but are they meant for walking because the sole looks smooth? We have 2 of those Baby Einstein toys 🙂 Do you use a playmat? I can’t seem to decide on one after reading about EVA, PVC, offgassing, etc. I even considered purchasing several rubber yoga mats! Also, do you have book or blog recommendations besides Bringing Up Bebe? Thank you!

Hi May, thanks for the reminder! I just updated my list with our favorite play mat. I’ll think about your books/blog question.

Thanks Kat! I saw this in person and it looked really nice but then I read that it might not be non-toxic as claimed because it’s made out of PVC. What do you think? My husband thinks it’s fine. I know you put a lot of thought into your purchases so would like your input on this 🙂 Also what is your favorite sippy cup?

We like it…I understand your concerns about the PVC, honestly we try to avoid but sometimes it gets to be too difficult to find that perfect version of baby products…I’m sure you know what I mean!

We actually never used Sippy Cups, baby Feather just uses a regular straw in a cup, so we were able to get around that! I did buy the Munchkin 360 one that seemed quite good, but a little bit of a pain to wash.

    Great list!

My big girl is still using her Little Giraffe small blankets as lovies 😀 She has two and one is very raggedy now.

My twins did not take to their Little Giraffe small blankets but they are very attached to their little animal friend from their paci. http://www.wubbanub.com/
They did not use the paci after 18 months old so we just cut off the paci and left them with the animal friend as their lovies. I have back-ups but they only want the original!

I so wish they would make bigger sizes for Trumpette socks! They are super adorbs and I bought them for all my girls when they were little.

My other best buy is this Fisher Price portable baby booster seat.
    http://www.fisher-price.com/en_US/brands/babygear/products/Discover-n-Grow-Busy-Baby-Booster
We used it until they were almost 4.5 years old.
Yes it is bulky and especially so when we had to lug two around!
But it keeps them safely buckled in plus they have their own tray for food or other activities. I prefer it to using restaurant high chairs. At least I know my seats are clean and only messed up by my own child. They are easy to maintain, nothing a good wipe or Clorox can’t fix, if it’s get too yucky, we wash it down.

Lastly, by using these seats, my girls learnt from young to sit in their seats while we eat so there’s no running around the restaurant shenanigans!

Thank you! I have the same booster ( a version) and it’s great, I should use it more (because it’s heavy as you say I don’t always take it out)
