Weekend Update

1.  Lately I’ve found myself very addicted to shopping at Matches Fashion. The customer service is great, the selection is excellent, the packaging is adorable, but most importantly of all, the prices on certain European brands are a lot cheaper (and all the prices already include duty). Like these excellent Tod’s loafers, available at full price for $357.

When’s the last time you saw a designer shoe, with a sturdy sole like this one, for under $400? Another example are these classic pebbled sole loafers – just $311 at Matches (in a great rose gold color), whereas they’re $425 on the Nordstrom site.

Matches used to be less expensive on a whole slew of designers, including Max Mara. Now, it seems they’ve gone to parity with US sites on a lot of brands – but there’s still some hidden gems! I’d recommend checking out Matches, especially if you’re looking for goodies from European labels.

2. A fun little read, via Racked, on why everyone on TV has the same hair. Once I read this, I couldn’t stop seeing the hair everywhere! And now I want to perfect it for myself…the article has convinced me!

3. Have you noticed more and more stores noting that items are “Final Sale”? I have, and it’s can be offputting, espeically if the discount isn’t that great. The WSJ covers the final sale trend.

4. Do you want to see scores of beautiful interiors (and die a little inside if you’re like me, because you want these rooms so bad but know they cost millions)? Read this fascinating article, via Vanity Fair – The Secrets of the Uber Rich’s Interior Designer.

5. This week I finished Heads in Beds, by Jacob Tomsky.

Tomsky is a luxury hotel veteran, and shares his experiences over his decade + working at various chains (all with names disguised unfortunately). I’d If you’re a hotel lover like me, I’d say that you’d enjoy this book – I would compare it to the hotel version of Kitchen Confidential. A fun, easy and entertaining read.

Loved the Racked article – my 13-year-old and I have been calling this “DryBar hair” for years!

Thank you for featuring “Heads in Beds.” I literally bought the ebook version as soon as this saw this post of yours. I am in the industry and I and I can’t believe I only reading this now! Hilariously entertaining! BTW, the hotel that was in the first few seconds chapters takes place at the Ritz 😉

I remember reading somewhere that Betty Catroux was pretty “pround” of never having worked a single day in her life – lucky girl!

Hi Katherine — just fyi, there are some great options on Tod’s shoes (loafers, brogues, flats) at Yoox, which is running a 15% off everything sale or 20% off if you purchase through the app plus free shipping on all orders. Some of the Tod’s brogues come out to $250 after the discount! Of course, Yoox can be somewhat hard to navigate, but there are gems to be found!

Thank you! I always love Yoox but sometimes get intimidated.
