1. I feel like this summer, there are so many great flat sandal options! This week I’m sharing another one that I saw in person the other day (in the gorgeous shade of red shown below), by Vince Camuto.

My ideal flat sandals are never actually entirely flat – I always prefer a slight wedge instead. I find it more flattering to the leg, and also more comfortable – there’s a bit of padding so your foot isn’t hitting the ground directly. There’s been a bunch of great options this summer, and this one is under $100 to boot. I’m just deciding between the neutral and the red!
2. Here’s an article, via The Telegraph UK, about husbands who fly business class while their wives sit back in economy. What do you all think? I can share that this isn’t the case in our household…either we all sit up front, or we all sit in the back.
3. I somehow missed this news – that Maria Grazia Chiuri (formerly of Valentino) is the new creative director of Dior. The NY Times has a great breakdown on the appointment and what it means, including an interesting anecdote that she had tried out for the job nearly two decades ago!
4. Do you use Birchbox? I tried it for a bit, but I ended up canceling years ago. I found this article on the current state of the company, via Racked, quite interesting – Is This the End of Birchbox? If you’re a more current subscriber, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
5. This week, I finished Finders Keepers, from Stephen King.
Finders Keepers is kind of a sequel to Mr. Mercedes (it’s the second book of a three part series), but each can be read independently. It centers around the long lost, never published works of a reclusive famous writer (bearing striking similarities to John Updike). I’d write more, but I don’t want to give away the story. I did enjoy it a lot, and even more than the first in the series (Mr. Mercedes). If you’re looking for a good crime/detective thriller (or a fan of Stephen King), I’d recommend Finders Keepers.

If my husband ever did what that Telegraph article husband did (which he wouldn’t dare, re: hell hath no…”) but for the sake of argument let’s say he did, the only way I could LET him was if he was waiting at the terminal for me (when I finally deplaned from my Economy seat) with a new, rare, hard-to-find HOP large item that comes in a LARGE orange box with all the bells and whistles (meaning something from VCA, something from Buccellati, something from Seaman Schepps, and something from JAR – yes, I realize how obnoxious this sounds but if he’s going to be THAT obnoxious…’-P ) each and every time, then I might consider the discrepancy in flight class.
While not a big fan of Dior, I was intrigued when I had first heard the news; I feel very confident she will do something wonderful there even if it’s only that she is in someways paving the way for women there in a new way. I am pretty sure she will design some fabulous “it” bag or accessory as well and I am very excited to see her first collection. She makes me more curious about Dior than I have been in long while.
I never tried Birchbox but I am not surprised. It seemed like a nice idea in theory but frankly, it seems that with cosmetics, the people who really enjoy it like to go test things out in person instead of being sent tiny samples that one usually ends up not liking or using…ever. Besides, I don’t know about others, but I have a pretty good relationship with my beauty SA’s at different stores (including Sephora) so I will only go and shop/browse when they are working and when I express interest in an item, say some organic skin care, they will either give me a very generous sample or they will get a deluxe sample that they’ve squirreled away and let me have it to try out. I will admit, I was surprised when the SA at Sephora was so generous with me – one time she had a whole little beauty bag filled with Dior cremes and Caudalie – all deluxe samples…it was such a lovely surprise! A funny thing, I don’t care much for Chanel skincare – my apologies to you or any of your readers who might, but I do purchase their cosmetics as gifts often during the holidays, because lets face it, who doesn’t like Chanel makeup when it’s gifted? 😉 Well, this was maybe 8 months ago I was just looking at their collection of makeup when the SA I work with came over to me raving about their Sublimage L’Extrait and how wonderful it was. She and I have different skin types so naturally I was hesitant and then she told me how much it was and I was a “firm no” on that item – lol. She thought it was so wonderful and was convinced I should try it that she went and (with zero encouragement) got a glass vial and proceeded to fill it for me to take home and try (all the while saying she really shouldn’t be doing this). I told her it was fine and that I didn’t need it but she really believed in the item THAT much. I will admit, I have used it once only and it was uneventful.
Oh dear, there I go again babbling – sorry so long! Oops!

ps- re: sandals…you know, Chanel is still having their private sale going on and there are lots of sandals…. On Larkie’s IG (no, I do not know her but love her style) she has purchased quite a few (understatement) and they all look so good on her! Take a look if you haven’t yet.

First of all, any husband who flies that much has enough miles to upgrade his family. Secondly, love that it’s all men sitting up front in this article. Do any businesswomen do this?
If my husband tried this, or was even the kind of guy to think it, we would be in divorce court and I would be flying seated next to a different husband 😉 – but he’s the opposite. We have had occasional times where only one of us gets an on-the-spot upgrade, and he will insist that I take it no matter what. Chivalry is not dead!

July 17, 2016 at 8:06 amAs a business professional and the person that earns the mileage points, I have certainly flown in business or first class while my husband has been in another class. Mostly it is because we don’t have enough points for us both to fly in the same class. When we are using his points, the same situation applies. I’m never upset when I have to fly in a separate class. The person that earned the points gets the benefits. If we are paying for our seats, then we are usually in the same class. It’s certainly not an issue in the grands scheme of life.

July 17, 2016 at 1:30 pmHaven’t read the Telegraph article, but its description reminded me of a Youtube star who flew business class but her non-Youtube husband *initially* was flying economy. (It ended happily ever after with both of them being bumped up to trans-Atlantic first class.)

July 23, 2016 at 8:56 amBoth people should fly economy until they can afford to fly first/business class together. The arrangement mentioned in the article is just rude because it automatically devalues the other person in the relationship, which happen to be the women (coincidence?).
