Weekend Update

1. I have a slight obsession with cardholders, and collect them in all kinds of shapes and sizes. I recently came across the Saint Laurent version, and love everything about it! The color, shape, everything.

One day if I’m in the mood to really bore you all, I’ll go into detail about what makes a great cardholder, but I’ll just summarize for now and say that a great cardholder a) holds quite a few cards, b) is sleek, and c) can also hold coins and cash. I love this one because of that zip pocket which can also hold coins, tickets, cash, and anything else securely. And the color is great too. Adding to my mile long wish list.

2. A great piece, via Racked, with Patricia Field describing how the costumes/outfits in The Devil Wears Prada came together.

3. Like quite a few other people out there, I have a totally unjustified dislike for Blake Likely (probably because she’s tall and hot). Anyway, I enjoyed this snarky film review of her latest film – The Shallows – via The NY Times..

4. Another little article via The NY Times, about Brioni’s makeover – what do you all think? I’m not sure I’ma  fan, quite frankly….but then what do I know? Is this the Hedi Slimane effect?

5. This week I finished The Girls, by Emma Cline.

The Girls is a book I thought I’d really like, and was waiting for to come out. It’s the story of a young teenage girl, who joins a cult (very reminiscent of the Charles Manson cult). Cults? Manson Family? Sign me up! For some reason however, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. The language was a little too intricate and flowery at times, and it was hard for me to keep my interest. The plot didn’t grip me the way I thought it would. The subject matter however was so interesting that I kept plodding through.

The pacing and general feeling reminded me a bit of The Virgin Suicides – but a little more slow/muddled. I’d still give the book a shot if you’re interested – the writing is very well done, and perhaps it just wasn’t my personal taste. Please share if you’ve been reading or have read it! Have a great weekend!

I love reading your weekend updates! The book recommendations and articles usually end up on my ‘to read’ list and/or will be read over the weekend. 🙂

As an owner of that prticular Saint Laurent cardholder in black, I’ll have to warn you that although it looks immensely lovely and sleek, and holds a generous amount of cards (far more than the 5 allocated slots), the zip pocket is not the best. It only holds a very small amount of coins amd it becomes frustratingly tedious to get any type of money and/or receipts out of that compartment, because of the placement of the card slots. Paper money tends to get stuck inthe zipper (whilst opening it) sometimes as well.
I love it for its sleekness, the size and the card capacity, but it is sadly not the most functional piece.
Hope that this is helpful to you. 🙂

    xx

Thanks so much for your comments on the card case! That was so helpful…I might have to remove this one from my list, sadly!

Hate Blake Lively too! Glad I’m not the only one (sorry to all the fans!)

Why would I hate Blake Lively? I don’t even know her.
I think her husband is delightful and intelligent, based on about two interviews I have seen.
I could not tell you what movies either have been in.

I have a horrible dislike for Terrance Howard ( not sure that is his name) based on interviews, news reports and
acting. He just gives me the creeps and is a hater.

On the other hand, I love your blog and it is one of very few I read. I don’t read the sales alerts as the
clothes are usually sold out and since I am really tall would never fit me anyway.
I can’t buy a dress off the rack as the waist in always in the wrong place.
Blouses and shirts are a nightmare due to sleeve length and on and on.

Thanks for your feedback senorita! I have been trying to find items with more sizes in stock for the Sale PSAs, sometimes they do sell out quite quickly. I have the same problem with the waist on dresses and can only buy certain cuts.

I liked the idea of The Girls too but something was lost for me in the execution — after all that build up, such a slow slide! I think you would like An Innocent Fashion — I just reviewed it this week on my blog and loved it

I always thought Patricia Field should have won an Oscar for her work on Devil. I know she did not stand a chance against Milena Canonero (who won for ‘Marie Antoinette’), but Milena had already won a couple of Oscars at that point and I was hoping it would go to Patricia, since I think it is far harder to costume a modern movie than one set in a particular time in history. I love a good card holder too and that Saint Laurent one looks great, especially in that shade of green. Are you close to planning a first birthday party for Baby Feather? xx

Great points about Patricia Field – I just watched this film last night and I agree, she did a fantastic job. No big party for #1…just a small thing with family 🙂 Making it easy on ourselves while he’s still tiny and happy with his own cupcake, ha!

The quest for the perfect cardholder: it’s the one little piece of attainable perfection.

I also hate Blake Lively. She seems like the most privileged, tone-deaf actress out there based on recent events (see: her fetishization of Southern antebellum culture on her Goop imitation website, her Instagram post referencing Baby Got Back).

I’m also looking for a cardholder because my standard Fauré Le Page wallet is huge! Could you do a post on your wishlist? Maybe I can save myself some research 😉
