Weekend Update

Thank you all very much for your support for the Sabi Shawl! First orders should be arriving by either end of this week, or early next. All three color ways are almost equally popular, which makes me happy as I obsessed quite a bit over all three (and started with quite a few more color varieties which were agonizingly eliminated). If you have any questions, feel free to let me know or leave in the comments.

Now onto this week’s Weekend Update…

1. The Net-A-Porter sale started this week, which is always one of my favorite sales to shop. Top on my list is this adorable Sophie Hulme card holder. I love the sleek design, and it’s just $102 at the sale price.

The only thing stopping me right now is the fact that I have a bit of a card holder addiction, and have amassed a little bit of a collection. They are so incredibly useful though, and if you’re looking for a mini card holder/wallet to hold some cash and cards to tuck into a small purse, this would be a great option.

2. A few fashion related crimes (and not the Kardashian kind) to share this week. First, read about how Louis Vuitton’s store in Rio was robbed just days after the brand staged its Cruise collection show there, via The NY Times.

Then, read about how a Virginia woman was able to buy $1M in authentic handbags from stores, and then return fake ones (and teach at a Montessori to boot, without proper credentials). Unbelievable and also a bit scary…you’d hope that buy buying directly through department stores you would have guaranteed authenticity.

Rodarte

3. A fascinating and somewhat snarkily titled article via The Washington Post – Does Rodarte Actually Exist? It’s a really interesting piece that I’d recommend checking out, especially if you’re interested in the fashion industry. It raised some questions in my own mind – is there anything wrong with how the Rodarte sisters are managing their business? Should to be honored with a CFDA award? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Also, I admit to owning one of the Radarte hoodies mentioned…I still love it years later!

4. I thought this article, via Vanity Fair, about Jack Dorsey and the future (and past) of Twitter to be a worthy read. Do you use Twitter a lot (or at all)? I have to admit I’m not on there very much at all anymore…it’s fascinating to read about the turmoil behind the scenes of such an important tech “unicorn” though.

5. This week, I finished Opening Belle, by Maureen Sherry. A friend of mine (who happens to be a female quant working in finance) recommended the book as an easy, fun read and I have to say it delivered.

Opening Belle

Opening Belle is what I’d describe as “Wall Street chick lit” where the protagonist herself works as a very successful NYC trader (a refreshing change from many other chick lit stories, where the husband is always the one on Wall Street). It’s a fun read and many aspects of it felt very true…not everything gets resolved the way that you’d like. That being said, it is still chick lit, so if you’re looking for something more serious, I’d look somewhere else. Recommended for a fun read with some interesting insights to working as a woman on Wall Street.

I recently read Opening Belle as well, I have to agree – not the most serious book I have read but fun, lighthearted but a slight step up over your typical chick lit romance blah. Could not give over that article regarding the VA woman! How interesting. I’m always a bit speculative myself at purchasing even from consignment or high end re-sale. Have a wonderful weekend.

What did you think of the husband?? I was disappointed by the ending and what she chose to do with him…but in a way it makes it more “real”.

I think Twitter has sadly been ruined by people linking it up to their IG accounts, so now all these pictures are in a format that feels like it was created strictly for alphanumeric characters. I still think it is far better for real time news than any other social media platform, especially where crime is concerned. It was also a hilarious feed on the night of the Met Gala. The things people wrote were incredibly funny. My favorite was from a guy who tweeted “Everybody look clown.” SO funny (and true). I love the look of the Sabi Shawl, I hope you have not pre-sold all the gray! I’m thinking of buying some VCA Sweet Alhambra studs soon and I think this shawl would look amazing with those earrings, whether onyx or MOP! Have a great weekend with Mr. Feather and Baby Feather!

That’s a very interesting insight on Twitter! I’m going to try to be on there more. The gray is going quite fast, but if you miss it this time around I hope to be able to restock by the holiday season (quite far I know). I love those sweet studs, they’re the perfect size for the ear.

Poor Brazil! Even the LV store?! So many things to read–including Opening Belle that I’ve shelved in my to-reads on Goodreads. Thanks for the reminder!

This is really off topic, but I searched your site for the Theranos scandal if in case you brought it up, and my belated reaction not that it matters is that it brought to surface my female quadruple standard: I expect women to be better than pulling stupid shit that men do, and when women are caught I feel extra vindictive towards them.

Thanks for your honesty about Theranos…really interesting reaction and I understand where you’re coming from. It’s pure negligence on Holmes’ part and I cringe to think that people may judge female executives in the future as a result.

I first saw Rodarte at Susan (BTW, she is the best buyer. Susan and the Grocery Store were my local boutiques when I lived in the Bay Area and I have pieces I bought there many many years ago that I still adore — and wear). Rodarte’s clothes were amazing and I still check out their collection just to see what the sisters are obsessing over; they’ve certainly evolved. They don’t have to take over the world and I’m glad they’re not trying to.

Shopping at Susan taught me to never wait for sales and to make decisions on the spot! I still regret not purchasing a Marni jacket – I came back an hour later – but it was already sold. That jacket in that particular color was not available anywhere else (I called all over; I even had a friend in Tokyo check the Marni stores there). And my heart broke even more when I saw “my jacket” one week later worn by a very spiffy lady and it looked sooo good.
