Weekend Update

 1. Ever since I got my Alice & Olivia sweater (you can see it here) during last fall sale season, I’ve been paying more attention to the brand. This is the latest number I’ve got my eye on – I’ve been trying to wait for sale, but this dress is already completely sold out already on a few sites, and sizes are going fast. Come on, just make it a little while longer!

I love the simple black and white silhouette, and the little knife pleat gives it an unusual twist. This is the kind of little black dress which I think looks better on than in photographs – it needs some movement. And the chic silhouette and solid colors means it’ll be a classic. Love!

2. Do you wear a fitness tracker – Apple Watch, Fitbit, or Jawbone? I used to have a Jawbone, but in writing this I realize I have no idea where it is. I haven’t worn it in years. This article, about why Jawbone keeps falling short, is interesting reading for anybody interested in the wearables market (or who just wants to read an interesting business case study).

3. I especially enjoyed this article about the jewelry at the Cannes Film Festival via the NY Times, Elegance is Refusal. Most of the time I can’t relate at all to the super blinged out, stratospherically priced jewelry on display at these types of events, so I loved reading about the personal jewelry pieces of the women in this article, and the stories behind them.

4. I love a lot of the videos that British Vogue does – I confess that I rarely visit the US site, but I go to the British one all the time. The editors have great fashion too – one of my favorites is Sarah Harris, who has the minimalist wardrobe of my dreams. I loved watching this little feature of “In The Bag of Sarah Harris” – very fun and also seemed very “real”, in a day when many of these types of pieces seem all too pat and staged!

5. A fascinating and disturbing article via The Washington Post, on the current situation in Venezuela – A Country Which Should Have Been So Rich, But Ended So Poor.

6. This week, I finished Gone, by Mo Hayder. I’d been craving a good mystery/detective novel, and this was a recommendation from a good friend.

And, I really enjoyed it! I only realized about halfway through the novel that Gone is part of a series, called the Jack Caffrey series (its actually #5). However, as you might be able to guess from my experience, you really don’t need to have read the preceding novels – there’s not too much backstory and the characters are developed enough on their own. Gone was a very well written crime mystery which never resorted to easy cliches. If you’re a fan of a good detective/whodunnit, I’d recommend giving Gone a try.

THREE cuffs! I could only dream! I think you should get four…two sets for each wrist, hehe!
