Weekend Update

1. I’ve been doing lots of shoe shopping lately (as you can probably tell from some of my other posts and weekend updates), and keep finding great options out there that I want to share. This week’s is an affordable pair from Sam Edelman, which I love – plus they are really comfortable! A great way to wear the lace up trend without spending a ton of money.

My preferred way to tie these types of sandals (lace up) is with them tied in the back, without looping them around the ankle, so that less of the leg is cut off – you can see that styling in the photo below. I’ve been stalking the camel pair, waiting for them to come back in my size – they’re the perfect color and material (suede) for summer.

2. For all of us who grew up with Britney Spears and remember her as she “used to be” – a very interesting article, via The NY Times – Is Britney Spears Ready to Stand On Her Own?

3. A fabulous article from Teri Agins via the WSJ, especially for those working in environments requiring professional dress – The Good Wife and Its Lessons for Dressing. I’ve been a fan of this show since Season 1, but I sadly to stop watching this final because the storylines just weren’t working for me. I love Christine Baranski though and Diane’s wardrobe on the show was always on point!

4. A great article in this issue of Vanity Fair, about the relationship between Lee Radziwill and her sister Jackie O. I really love the interview with Radziwill, she’s at the point in her life when she can be as frank as she wants to be…with no consequences! And I learned quite a bit…including a new fact about one of my favorite documentaries, Grey Gardens.

5. This week, I finished D.V., the autobiography of fashion icon Diana Vreeland. And it was great!

The book’s style is a bit as if Vreeland is talking directly to you – so it took me a little while to get used to. Once I did however, I really enjoyed it. Vreeland’s anecdotes and stories about her life are often amazing in terms of the historical figures she met and events she lived through. And of course, there’s lots of little juicy fashion related tidbits as well.

I will caution that Ms. Vreeland isn’t terribly politically correct, and if you’re easily offended by off color remarks you may not like her or her book. But Vreeland actually comes across as quite open minded, certainly experimental, and above all unfiltered – the best attribute to have, when writing an autobiography. If you’re a fashion lover and a fan of Vogue/Vreeland (and are D.V., by Diana Vreeland.

This season of the Good wife has indeed been rough, but you may want to watch the last 3-4 episodes. I find this storyline with Peter quite fascinating– Alicia and Peter have such a complex relationship.
