The Sabi Shawl

For those in the USA – I hope you had a great long weekend! I had a very introverted but quite satisfying one, spending time with my husband and the baby and going on an organizational spree. Yup, I re-read Marie Kondo and was obsessed for the next 40 hours.

Today I’m sharing a new addition I’m proud to have at PASSAGE 88 (more background on that here) – the Sabi shawl, a series of extra large, luxuriously soft cashmere and silk wraps. Perfect for those cool summer evenings.

FF Sabi Shawl

Like with my Mars necklaces, a leopard shawl is an item which I’ve been trying to add to my closet for quite some time. I’m super particular about design, colors, material, and of course price, and finally decided to make my own. These shawls have been in development for quite a while…and now they’re finally here! Each Sabi shawl is a large format (130cm by 130cm square), and made out of lightweight 50/50 mix of high quality silk and cashmere. They’re made for year round wear – gather them around your neck for fall and winter, and lightly drape them on spring days and summer nights.

I worked with a wonderful artist for the design, who helped me create the exact leopard print I wanted. We used a combination of a watercolor and digital techniques, and then worked to perfect each color way. All three selections were chosen to be able to work with both warm and cool toned wardrobes. Here are the colors:

Naturals – featuring shades of cream, rust, beige, brown, and black.

Natural Sabi Worn

Slate Grays –  featuring shades of pure gray, slate (blue toned) gray, creams, and a hint of azure. Depending on the light and what side of the shawl you’re wearing, the shawl will appear either more blue or pure gray. The color is a chameleon!

Pinks and Creams – This color way features shades of pink, cream, and aubergine. The pinks are soft but still have some visual impact, and look great against a variety of skin tones.

PInk Sabi Feather Factor

Pinks Group

The fabric was custom made in this size and printed for me by a manufacturer which supplies for some very well known luxury cashmere brands. I was very particular about both size and weight – the size had to be large, but not too large (its just a smidgen smaller than the Hermes 140 shawls, which is what I wanted), and the fabric had to be feather light. I often like to fold my shawls multiple times, and in thicker fabrics, it can feel too heavy. With the Sabi shawls, I can fold as many times as I want without adding bulk.

It was also very important to me that the shawl be made of all high quality natural fibers, and feel super soft and luxurious…but not at a crazy cost. It was key to me that people be able to use this shawl for all kinds of occasions and situations, without feeling too worried about causing damage to an expensive piece.

The Sabi shawl is $95 and I’m proud to be able have created my dream leopard shawl, without compromising quality or design, at this price. You can find all three color ways at PASSAGE 88.

Bravo! I’ve been waiting patiently ever since the tasseled necklaces last year. I still love my malachite. Now to decide which color, or 2..

Wow! This looks like amazing quality for the price. I’ve also been looking for a print scarf with cashmere and silk or wool blends and have been looking at $300+ price points. I’m very tempted to order one in the slate gray…if only there was one in an all camel color too…

Hi Nancy, thanks very much! I’d love to add an all camel one in the future…a favorite colorway of mine too 🙂 The natural does incorporate camels.

    Hi there.
    Long time lurker here.
I finally had to comment because these are fabulous! And the price is really great. Congrats!

I would really be interested n hearing more about how you went about finding resources to create and manufacture your Passage 88 items if that wouldn’t divulge company secrets

The scarves are beautiful! I immediately think of the Louis Vuitton Sprouse scarves. How would you say they compare in terms of size and quality? Your price point is obviously much more attractive.

Hi Elaine, I have the Sprouse (or had as I haven’t been able to locate it) but from what I remember, it was a rectangular shawl, versus the Sabi is square. The Sprouse has a more “deliberately wrinkled look” which I loved, the Sabi is smooth. In terms of quality I honestly feel in terms of softness and durability they are equal.

I have been searching high and low for a light pink scarf (that lights up one’s complexion like the perfect shade of blush that does not blend with my skin tone because the color is too pale). Also, an indigo (deep purple blue) colored scarf will be the perfect pop of color for my black uniform during the fall/winter days and white uniform during the spring/summer days. A light turquoise colored scarf that reminds me of the beautiful ocean waters is dreamy too. You did a wonderful job with color selection for the prints; I can’t wait for your solid collection!

I for one would love some solid colors too! Years ago I missed the chance to grab an Isabel Marant scarf, the color is more like Mikado yellow.

I just received my slate gray in the mail this morning, and I absolutely adore it! Even though it’s about to be summer in hot, muggy Houston, TX, I’ll still be able to wear it right away. It’s light enough to fit in my bag, and it will be perfect for dealing with the icy air conditioning inside restaurants, movie theaters, etc.

Thank you, Katherine! I love it!

I received my Sabi this weekend. It is lovely and I am looking forward to wearing it in the fall. With the high temperatures in Las Vegas I doubt I’ll be able to wear it before October.

    Dear Katherine,

    These are really STUNNING!

Wow! I am so proud of you – the design and color ways are really gorgeous! Leave it to you to be taking care of Baby Feather and creating such loveliness to boot (all while you were doing renovations – sorry if I am not remembering correctly from our emails – been so overwhelmed these past few months!) these are really gorgeous!!!

I am so proud of you for endeavoring to make such gorgeous pieces to add to Passage 88! I can’t wait to see what else you have in store! 🙂 😀

    Big hugs,
    Ava
