Weekend Update

1. I just tried on a pair of sandals which arrived at my house the other day – unfortunately they’re a bit too long so I’ll need to exchange, but they’re quite nice so I thought I’d share – these suede lace up sandals, by Franco Sarto.

I have a hard time paying a lot of money for casual sandals for some reason (though I just dropped a hideous amount on a few pairs of Gucci loafers). I think its because I put them through so much wear and tear, especially as I tend to walk a lot. And, I like lots of padding in my flat sandals, and I usually find that high end designers don’t put in any padding (why? We’re certainly paying enough for some extra comfort!).

These Franco Sartos are lovely because they’re not completely flat – there’s a little hidden cork wedge which is great for a bit of height and extra comfort, and the footbed is padded too. You can also cut the length of the laces, so that you don’t need to tie them around your ankle multiple times to secure them – I love that look, but I have shorter legs and lace up sandals never flatter me. I bought these partially because they can just tie very simply in the back without looping again around the ankle (I tied them my preferred way above).

If you have any pretty and comfortable summer sandal recommendations as well – please share!

PS – for those who enquired, the nail color is Pirate (I do my own nails!).

2. This month’s Vanity Fair is really good, and I’d recommend picking up a copy. Here was one of the more interestnig articles, about the fight amongst Picasso’s heirs for his multi billion dollar empire. Did you know that if Picasso were still alive, he’d likely be a billionaire artist?

3. Jewelry lovers will enjoy this article, via The NY Times, on reviving the creations of Belperron. One of my favorite jewelry houses is Verdura – I just love so many designs, and the store/salon in New York is truly a little jeweled dream. I can’t wait to see what Belperron creations will be released in the coming years.

4. Here’s another article, again via The NY Times, about the author’s quest for a comfortable pair of shoes – The $1000 Pair of Shoes. I have never paid four digits for a pair of shoes, and I’m not sure I ever will (unless inflation really gets me). I just don’t think I can do it. For a beautiful pair of heels that would be as comfortable as sneakers, though? Maybe…

5. This week I finished a classic sci-fi novel – Hyperion, by Dan Simmons.

Hyperion

I’m not really a sci-fi fan, and if in the first few pages I can’t keep up with whatever Droid #1 is saying about the epic battle raging in Alternate Universe #459, I usually stop reading right then and there. Hyperion however, grabbed my attention right from the beginning – the story was just so interesting, and the sci fi elements weren’t so incredibly esoteric that I wasn’t able to get a grasp. The individual stories of the pilgrims were fascinating and well written, and just good fiction. I recommend Hyperion for any fans of sci-fi who haven’t already read this classic – but even if you’re not the biggest sci-fi reader like me, but you might still love it. I’d give it a chance!

Have a great weekend!

Picking up those Franco Sarto sandals for sure! Love the slight wedge. Will also take a look at Vanity Fair. You mentioned picking up some Gucci loafers. I have never bought any shoes by Gucci, and have to admit that their loafers have caught my eye. Do you have a favorite style you would recommend? I am also considering Ferragamo Varas, which I believe you also own. Any thoughts? I tend toward Tory Burch and AGL for flats, and am looking to branch out a bit!

    Have a lovely weekend!

I’m trying out a few styles and I’ll try to do a post on my experience after I’ve worn them for awhile 🙂

I just downloaded Hyperion – your description encouraged me to check it out on Amazon. I haven’t really read Science Fiction for many years – my father was a huge SF fan, and I read a lot of classic SF when I was a teenager (50 years ago!), but not in recent years. Looking forward to this, and to the next 3 books in the series if I like the first one!

Omg! The £1000 shoe is so funny! Does she always write like that? I was thinking of custom made shoes but for now I found what was required.

Kind of a weird question, but when do you find time to read magazines/newspapers? I feel like reading in the morning is a waste of time but habit dictates no other time.

I usually read in the morning, when I get a few minutes break during naps, and also on my phone…I am a fast reader too which helps (I think I am, at least, ha).

    Dear Katherine,

Nails on point! Lol, let me know when you run out of the “Pirate” – haha!
You know, on your maternity leave, you might want to try seeing if you can get a job as a foot model just for fun – I am being serious. 🙂

Can’t wait to see which Gucci loafers you got!

Hope you and the Feather Family have a great weekend!

    🙂

Wow! Hyperion! I just read that for the first time late last year at the urging of my CEO. It’s really – trippy and captivating I think are the words.
Hope all is well with the Feathers and min-Feather!
