Spring Purchases – 2016

Since the weather has already been reaching the 70s here in the Bay Area, I’ve been doing some advanced spring shopping. Here are some of my keepers for the upcoming season…please share what you’re planning on adding!

Figue Tuk Tuk Detail

Figue “Tuk Tuk” Tote. I have a thing for summer totes – they’re usually lightweight, less expensive, and a great accessory to have more fun with (I’m still searching for the perfect woven straw bag, by the way). I’m hopelessly attracted to anything that features pom poms, and had been considering one of these Figue “Tuk Tuk” style bags for the longest time. I finally decided to pull the trigger a few months ago to have a fun tote for spring/summer, and I love it! It’s very well designed, and I love all the little details and the slight hippie vibe. There’s a drawstring closure up top, so that you can keep your belongings more secure if you want, and also an inside zip pocket. So more functional than just your usual totally open woven beach tote.

Figue Tuk Tuk Tote

My specific pattern is now sold out, but I actually prefer this season’s version even more (I’m a sucker for nautical). If I’d been able to trust myself with an all white tote, I probably would have picked up this “Heidi” model instead.

Also, for a much more affordable and fun straw bag for summer, I’d check out Eliza Gran’s totes. Very fun!

PS – I just found this “Evil Eye” version of the Tuk Tuk on sale for 40% off!

Chloe Blush

Chloe Boxwood sunglasses. I love Chloe sunglasses – they tend to fit my face well, and I love the colors and styles they come out with each season. I’m always drawn to the funkiest versions – I would have totally gone for the Carlinas had Mr. Feather not expressed his abject and total opposition.

As a compromise, I ended up with these Boxwoods as my newest addition. I had a hard time deciding between the peach, turtledove, and navy! All three colors are a bit more unusual than your normal tortoiseshell/black, but all were pretty flattering and not too outlandish. I ended up with the peach as it went well with my skin tone.

Also for my fellow small faced ladies – these Boxwoods are a very reasonable 54mm, which means they don’t look too large – there’s also a slightly larger 56mm version with a great metallic trim, and a 50mm version as well.

Corso Como Sandals

Corso Como espadrilles. Each year, I feel like I get wimpier and wimpier about my heeled sandals. Maybe because now I realize I’m going to be carting a 15+ pound baby on top of everything else, so my shoes have to be extra comfortable.

I picked out these Corso Como sandals because they have a reasonable wedge, are super padded on the insole, and have a slight platform to make things even more comfortable. And of course, they are incredibly comfortable. I will say that they’re not the most beautiful sandals – nobody gushes over them – but they’re flattering enough to the leg and add some height.

I ordered my true size by the way – I didn’t size down, as the Nordstrom site suggests, and they fit perfectly.

Vince Camuto cork sandals

Vince Camuto “Baeden” sandal: These are still a maybe, but only because I’m not sure if they’re the right for my type of legs (aka, short, sigh). These are also super comfortable, and I could wear these tromping around the city for hours easily. The cork makes them really light, and the suede is soft with no break in required. I’d really recommended checking these out if you’re looking for a low heeled sandal, and am a fan of the Sam Edelman Trinas.

What are some of your spring buys? If you have any comfortable sandal suggestions – I’d love to hear them!

I bought the Trinas 2 summers ago and I’ve worn the so much I need to order another pair! Thanks for the link. I rarely wear high heals, so these are a nice alternative with dresses especially.

Hi ladies, I’ve been working on a few but they take a lot of time and organization (on both sides) … I hope to have some in the next few months!

I loved the Trinas for comfort but didn’t care for the quality, especially the synthetic lining of the straps which peeled away with wear. Sam Edelman’s designs are great, I just wish they would use leather linings – I would happily pay more for that!
Have just picked up a pair of ATP sandals from Net-a-Porter – elegant and comfortable.

Have you tried the Stuart Weitzman “Broadband” sandal? They are similar to the Vince Camutos you posted, but the upper strap goes more over the instep than the ankle, so I think they are more flattering on a shorter leg.

Hi Katherine! Have you tried Bettye Muller brand sandals/espadrilles? They are hard to find in stores, but you can order them. They are very stylish and comfortable – and pretty affordable. I find the SW Broadbands kind of dowdy looking (sorry). I don’t think short slim legs like yours are a problem for any shoe – especially those Vince Camutos. I have found that that kind of style hits my ankle at uncomfortable places but I love that look.

Thank you for the heads up on shopbop sales! I got a pair of red hunter rain boots and Helmut Lang stretch leather pants! Tempted to buy the wedge sandals you got!
