Holiday Gifts: 2015

Since the holiday season is approaching very quickly, I thought I would share some of my favorite gifts for the year. These are all items that I’ve selected and purchased for others (and myself…ha), and hope they might help some of you out there looking for gifting inspiration.

Pom Beanie

Anthropologie Pom Pom Beanie: I love this beanie! I first saw it in our local Anthropologie shop, and picked up the wine for myself. I have pretty sensitive skin and also a big bobble head (seriously, my head is the same size as my husband’s). And this beanie fit my head fine as it has a lot of stretch…and didn’t itch at all when I wore it (the inside is lined with fleece!). I’m a fan, so I’ve since picked up a few more as gifts. The colors are so fun, and my favorite feature is of course the gigantic pom pom ball on top. The pom actually looks bigger in person than it does on photographs. Very fun.

Robe

Barefoot Dreams Hooded Zip Robe. To say that this isn’t the most flattering item I own would be a vast understatement. But man oh man do I love this robe. SO MUCH! I’ve always been a lazy robe wearer – I hate adjusting the belt all the time. Our place can get cold though, so I recently splurged on this one (no belt needed…and kangaroo pockets!) and I’ve been wearing it non stop at ever since. Did my husband wrinkle his nose the first time I put it on? Yes. Do our neighbors believe that I’ve joined some kind of vegan cult, after one too many sightings of me in this while fetching the paper in the morning? But like I said, I adore this robe so much that I don’t care. And I bought another for a friend who I know loves to be comfortable and stocks up on sweats…so I’m sure she’ll enjoy it.

Swan

Last Swan Agnelli Open

Marella Agnelli: The Last Swan. I’m not usually a coffee table book fan – I rarely read them and feel guilty reading any books unread. But this is actually one that I read all the way through, and enjoyed so much that I’ve re-read, and re-read it. Agnelli is such an inspiration, not just because of her beautiful taste, her homes and gardens, but also because of her discretion and humility, despite having grown up and having lived within such great privilege. I bought a copy for my mom (who reminds me of Marella!) and this would be a perfect gift for anyone who loves beautiful gardens and the stories behind them.

Diptyque Photophore

Diptyque Photophore set. I love gifting candle accessories, because they’re usually seen as something quite indulgent that many people, even those who adore candles, may not buy for themselves.  But once you have them, they’re actually incredibly useful and I find even add a pretty decor detail. I use my Diptyque wick trimmer and candle lid constantly, and they are pretty enough that I don’t mind leaving them out. This Diptyque set combines one of the brand’s most popular scents – Baies – with a gorgeous handcrafted holder which makes a beautiful decor piece, both lit and unlit. I’ve already sent one off to a good friend overseas!

Uniqlo Compact Down Jacket

Uniqlo Compact Down Jacket. I love Uniqlo’s down items in general, and bought my first piece years ago – a little vest – while in Japan. I loved the contrast color tipping they did this season, and it reminded me of a Moncler jacket that came out awhile ago which I’ve always loved but couldn’t bring myself to buy. These jackets are so easy to wear and fit like a cardigan, and they pack up in a tiny little bag which easily fits in your tote (seriously!). I bought two colors to try out for myself, and a few as gifts as well. As a plus, they are really affordable, even at full price, they are $70, and there are frequently deals online and in store.

What are some of the items you’re gifting this season?

I bought the Baies Photophore about a month ago as my first ever Diptyque purchase. It’s been great. I usually stay away from candles because I am afraid my cat will knock them down, but the glass cover is perfect.
And it smells heavenly! I’m hooked!

I own many of those Uniqlos jackets and vests. I love them and they wear so well. I also adore coffee table books. I have many many of them, one of my guilty pleasures….all day in lounge clothes and flipping through a gorgeous coffee table book. A little birdie told me she got me a David Webb book for Christmas!

Just to say, fleece lined beanies are great for skiing / boarding if you’re not a helmet wearer, because the fleece makes them pretty much windproof.

That robe looks cuddly even in 2D!

I’m regretting that I missed this sale earlier, I’ve been waiting for Nordstrom’s 40% off sale!

I have the Eugenia Kim double fur pom pom hat from last year and was obsessed when it went on sale. I don’t even live in a winter environment any more but we all need cute hats for winter travels, haha!

Who doesn’t love something functional or beautiful right? I’ll definitely look into the book and the Diptyque set! Now that I work for a fashion startup, I’m happy to have access to pieces from cool designers so I just bought a few friends wonderful free-size, printed maxi dresses. I hope they like them!
