Weekend Update

1. I really, truly should not be eyeing anymore outerwear right now, but if I were to add another coat this season, I’d be highly, highly tempted by this Vince draped wool version.

It comes in a bunch of classic colors including navy and camel (the camel is especially lovely), but I really think this beautiful orchid color takes the cake. It’s just unique enough to standout, and be clearly a color that you rarely see on coats…yet so soft and pretty, and will still match with a bunch of neutral.

For those looking for a longer version, I also love this baby blue double face coat, also from Vince.

A few gossipy articles from the finance world –

2. Those interested in messy divorce fights/pre-nup battles will find this little summary via Vanity Fair about the billion dollar divorce fight of Ken Griffin an interesting read.

3. I had no idea about this current scandal involving venture capitalist Iftikar Ahmed. The WSJ has a great round up about the fraud Mr. Ahmed was involved in (he’s currently being held in India). Subscribers can find the article here – Harvard, Venture Capital, Goldman Sachs…Fugitivenon subscribers go to this link and click on the top Google Search result.

4. A quick read, via The Business of Fashion, about The Secret to Hermes’ Success.

5. This week’s reading was a recommendation from a friend, after too much complaining from my part about the post-partum chubby – French Women Don’t Get Fat, by Mireille Guilano.

I generally have very little patience for diet books – I have low discipline when it comes to food, plus most of the books I’ve seen have just been plain boring. No personal anecdotes, super detailed pseudo-scientific analysis on nutrition…as a pleasure reader, diet books can seem like super snooze fests. French Women… on the other hand, I found to be a pleasant enough read, with some basic points about diet – don’t get once you’re not hungry, eat fresh food, don’t indulge too much in any food group, etc. Not the most revolutionary advice, but some good reminders, interspersed with amusing enough examples. I enjoyed the read, though I’m not sure I’ll be claiming any miracle benefits to my waistline anytime soon.

By the way –  I thought it was kind of funny that there’s also the book, Japanese Women Don’t Get Old Or Fat – one upping Ms. Guiliano. Anyone read it?

I read the book and liked it. I don’t have a problem with weight but I enjoy reading a wide range of topics just because I’m curious.

I want to read that Japanese Women Don’t Get Old or Fat book now.

… even though I know exactly why & how they do it too 😉

In regards to the Japanese Women Don’t Get Old or Fat; I agree. I lived in Japan for almost 5 years and I kind eat the way they do. I love my sushi, salmon and sticky rice. I drink soy milk with my coffee and I love fruit. I find myself eating rice and salmon in the office in the morning. I love their diet. It is so hard to commit to it here in Chicago. Believe it or not, I have to get my fresh fish from Whole Wallets when I can afford to do so.

Can’t believe it is so difficult for fresh fish in Chicago! Your diet sounds delicious, by the way!

    Dear Katherine,

Loved the finance articles – so fascinating particularly the Iftikar one, why risk so much when you already have so much and were so fortunate in life? Maybe I am too basic and thus just don’t get it. :-/

That said, I am curious about any new changes to your beauty routine and routines in general post Baby Feather?

    Have a great weekend! 🙂
