Weekend Update

1. Have any of you tried Everlane shoes? I really like the backpack I got last year, and have been eyeing these pointed flats. I love the black and white version!

I’ve been looking for some more comfortable flats, and even though I love my AGLs, I’d like to switch things up a bit. My Chanels are really comfortable too, but the prices are getting dearer and dearer. These Modern Points are priced right and I think they can look quite sleek on the foot. If anyone has any feedback on Everlane shoes, please share!

2. For fans of Balenciaga and those following who might replace Alexander Wang as head of the label, an interesting piece via the NY Times about three contenders for the role, as well as the rise of the “non-star designer” heading up major labels.

4. Foodies (are we still supposed to be hating that word?) and non foodies alike will find this article interesting, via Vanity Fair, about why some of the world’s top chefs actually do not want a Michelin star. I thought it was absolutely fascinating! Do you look for Michelin ratings when choosing restaurants? I try not to care but have to admit that I can be pretty lazy about finding good spots in new destinations…I’ll always prefer a friend’s recommendation, but if not then Michelin can be pretty handy.

5. This week I’m re-reading (just for the second time) I Am Charlotte Simmons, by Tom Wolfe.

charlotte simmons

I’ve mentioned before that I’m generally a fan of Wolfe, and even though Charlotte Simmons isn’t my favorite work of his, I still find it quite entertaining and overall a good read. It never drags or seems slow, and a lot of what Wolfe described of college life was relatable to me (but I really wish he’d stop writing rap lyrics…oof). Enjoy!

Those Everlane flats look awesome! I live in flats, and love black and white together. My size is sold out, of course ! 🙁 I’d love to hear what you think if you get them.

    Hi Kathryn,
I haven’t try the new pointy one from Everlane but I do have a pair of the modern loafer and they are very comfortable. You want to order 1/2 size up because the toe box is a bit more narrow. I originally bought a pair and both my aunt and cousin bought one too after seeing mine. 🙂

I have Everlane’s modern loafer. I ordered my usual size and they hurt my feet. I’d definitely order half a sz up for the modern loafer as they are quit narrow. On the flats note, I was in Vienna and discovered Paul Green shoes. They are extremely comfortable, and leather is pretty divine. It’s an Austria company so the price is very reasonable in Vienna-around 150 euros. In the US they are about $300/pair.

Thank you! It seems like the consensus is to definitely order up!

I have three pairs of everlane shoes– two modern loafers and one woven black&white street shoes. I’m a true 6.5 and they insisted that I size up. That’s what happened to one of my modern loafers and street shoes. My second modern loafer is 6.5 and fits much better, and the street shoes are better left sized up.

I’m getting such a great use out of my everlane shoes. They’re perfectly dressy yet comfortable. My favorite is the street shoes just because they’re so darn light and comfortable. They recently slashed the price (to MY horror b/c I paid $155 and now they’re only $110!)… so worth for $110.
