Fall 2015 Purchase List

Hello! For those in the U.S., I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. I have to be honest that since I’m currently out on maternity leave, all my days just seem to kind of run on together. I kind of miss looking forward to those holidays from work.

Since September has arrived, and now that I finally can start fitting into “regular” clothes again (just barely…and I haven’t even attempted my old skinny jeans out of fear), I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to pick up for fall. Not surprisingly, the items I’ve been drawn to are a lot more practical this season – I don’t think I’ll be buying any more Chanel jackets this season (unless they reissue that classic black one from 2011…die hard RTW fans will know which one I’m talking about). Here’s my wish list below – and would love to hear yours!

Jackie Cognac

Frye Jackie boots in Cognac ($420). I LOVE my Frye Jackie boots. You can see my original review from 2013, and my love has not faded. I haven’t found a better all around casual boot. You can also see a photo of me wearing the black from my Canada Goose review. I wear mine so much that I’ve decided to branch out from my all too familiar black color family and would like the cognac, next. I think the color will go well with all the tans and grays I have in my wardrobe.

Cape

Reversible fringed cape ($78). The price is right on this one, and I love that it’s reversible. This cape also has all the colors I like, and is fringed – almost perfect, except for the material, which is acrylic. Augh! I always try to stay with natural materials, so may try to find a similar alternative. If you have any suggestions, please share!

Wallet Chain YSL

Saint Laurent Wallet on Chain ($1490). Now that I have a genuine diaper bag (or two), I realize the need for a little slim bag that I can easily tuck inside, that can hold my credit cards, phone, keys, and sunglasses, which I can easily wear cross body (to free up both hands!). I really like this wallet on chain from Saint Laurent – it’s larger than the classic Chanel WOC size, and fits quite a bit more. Not to mention…the price is a lot friendlier too. The textured leather is great for scratches and the black hardware means it’ll go well with silver, gold, or rose toned jewelry! I’m dithering between this one, the Gucci Soho Disco (first Gucci I’ve liked in a long time!) or some unknown other alternative.

Chloe Lauren

Chloe Lauren ballet flats ($475). I need a new pair of flats and not only have I heard great reviews about these Chloes, they were very comfortable when I tried them on in store. The sad state of designer shoes means that a sub $500 price point is starting to seem quite reasonable to me (is this insanity?) though I might try and wait for a sale. I always get great cost per wear from my comfortable flats though, so I don’t sweat the price too much if I love the shoes.

Not on my list this fall/winter season? A coat or winter jacket! I finally have come to terms that I have too much outerwear – a step forward since I have a major addiction and love a beautifully cut jacket or coat, especially one out of gorgeous fabric. I’m going to try my very best to stay strong.

What items are on your wishlist this fall season?

I have a Portolano lambs wool cape with fringe, that I picked up at Marshall’s a year or so ago. It’s been sitting in my closet for quite awhile. It was dirt cheap and I have been waiting for the right time to wear it.
It’s coming out for the maiden voyage this fall.

I have both the Chloe and the Lanvin flats, I think the Lanvin has better suport for Flat shoes. It is amazingly comfortable. So if you are open minded, I would strongly recommend the Lanvin

Absolute insanity. I want Chloe and Lanvin flats too and I think the prices are REASONABLE FOR THEM NOW.

Don’t you have that small bucket bag?
So many other brands have done the scalloped flats that you don’t have to pay the 500 if you want to.

I love the Chloe – have 2 pair. Maybe not much arch support but incredibly soft wonderful leather so no digging in. Also – I think they are distinctive – the Boden and other scalloped flats don’t look the same.

Burberry Prorsum has great wool/cashmere capes. The color block mega checks blanket cape comes in a variety of colors. The touch is to die for…

    Katherine,

I always love seeing your wish listed items! I have purchased a few things you have recommended over the years and they have worked out well. I am about to pull the trigger on the Frye boots! Thank you!

If you’re a shortie like me (or even not) I think you will like them! They are my favorite casualish boot and really comfortable!

I LOVE your wishlist! I had eyed that Gucci bag and actually went to the store to see it in person – I feel it’s a bit small to my liking and that’s why I haven’t decided yet. I also love that Chloe flat and last time when I saw that in department store in Hong Kong, it’s listed for $24xx HKD which is about $307US. I wonder why the price is such a big difference here. Recently tried the WOC (Chanel) the first time and do feel it’s a bit small, will definitely try the YSL you mentioned.
Great to see your post and take care!

Interesting to hear that about Chloe prices in HK! Usually US is a little cheaper or parity…very interesting.

I have the Soho Disco and it is one of the best buys I have ever made.
It fits my large wallet (think size of LV zippy), keys, 2 phones, cosmetics pouch and sunglasses case. So it is actually a spacious small bag.
Aaaaand (drumroll please): the strap is adjustable!
I bought the black one and actually consider buying a tan/cream one as well.

I’m a shorty, so an adjustable strap is generally a MUST.

I have the Chloe scalloped flats in black – I think I ordered them from Saks with a deal – maybe $75 off? Still way too expensive but I lusted after them for several years! I bought my usual size (7 1/2) and they were a bit snug at first, but they have stretched just a bit and are perfect!

Definitely look into the small YSL crossbody. I was on the fence about a year ago between the Chanel WOC and YSL’s Mini Y. The Mini Y won. The WOC was much too small for the price it was commanding. I can actually fit things in the YSL, and I am pleased with the quality of the bag. The chain (while different than the one in your picture) is really beautiful and this has become my go-to crossbody (though I actually bought it for evenings out — it converts to a clutch).

Thanks Amy, so glad to hear that you like the YSL and that you are happy with the quality. And good to hear you are finding it useful even during the day too.

I’m in the same camp as you re: natural fabrics (acrylic is a complete no-no in my book, I just can’t stand the way it feels — even having it blended in makes the knit feel cheap). Funny, I read this post and then went on shopbop to look around and one of the first things I saw was this Rag & Bone poncho — it’s practically identical!

    https://www.shopbop.com/double-faced-wrap-rag-bone/vp/v=1/1590834493.htm?folderID=2534374302029428&fm=other-shopbysize&os=false&colorId=12867

But 100% wool, Made in Italy, and of course, 10x the price! But I’m sure you’d get great cost per wear out of it 🙂

    Hi Kat,

That YSL bag is a NICE option at that price! I have the black hardware Chanel WOC (the “Batman”) and as pretty as it is, it’s too small for what I need even in evening. Wish I’d seen the YSL.

I have the Chloe flats and, while I LOVE he scalloped look, I am not a fan long-term. The leather’s quite thin as is the sole, so eventually they lose structure and don’t look the way they originally did, at least on my narrow feet. Mine are three years old now but it took less than a year for this to happen, which kind of impacts cost per wear!

I don’t personally “need” much for fall as I picked up some investment pieces last fall, and I did just add a Kelly. I can’t get enough of baggy soft sweaters so a few more of those and I am set!

Love your list!!! I’m a newish mommy too (actually my baby is about to turn two! Yikes!!). I love the Lanvin and Chloe flats. I have multiple pairs of both. I think the Lanvin flats are a bit more substantial and won’t get completely ruined if you’re caught in the rain (depends on the color though) but I love my scalloped Chloe’s as well. In terms of smaller bags, I’m so with you. I felt the same way and have been jumping from small bag to small bag. As much as I’d love something I could shove into the diaper bag, I’ve actually given in and bought the Givenchy pandora mini. I find it’s easy to throw cross body and holds everything I need.

how about the new LV bag – Twinset/ now Pochette or Crossbody or something, in Empreinte Leather. a bit larger than a WOC but still small enough to fit into a diaper bag and easy to be worn cross-body

I love Chloe flats too. They are on my list as well. Get it in Paris only 375 euro in lafeyette, almost 375 dollars after vat refund.
