Weekend Update

1. Do you all remember the classic Fendi Baguette? Were you all aware that it’s now back in various iterations…including the super adorable micro Baguette?

I love the “micro” bag trend, and this Fendi version is one of the best out there – adorable, tons of great colors and the price is right at just over $1K. My only issue is that this bad boy is indeed, micro. This would basically function solely as a smartphone holder for me, and only if I put it in the right way. But still it’s super cute. Any of you have one out there?

2. Did any of you participate in the earlier Lilly Pulitzer for Target madness? For some reason this completely flew past me…I kind of knew it was going no, but I’ve never been a huge Lilly purchaser (though I’ve admired a dress or two – I tend to like the plainer styles, like this white maxi). What do we all think of this article via The Washington Post – Lilly Pulitzer May Be Good For Retail, But Its Terrible Fashion?

3. I always like a good personal finance article and an inspiration to save, so here’s a good one I’d like to share, via The NY Times, about skimping on splurges….even when you have millions.

4. Those who read and enjoyed Kevin Kwan’s debut novel Crazy Rich Asians – I feel obligated to let you know that the sequel, China Rich Girlfriend, was just released.

I really enjoyed Crazy Rich Asians, and if I could ever convince my husband to try out chick lit, I’d have him read it just for the cultural value. The best kinds of beach reads are those written by authors that are snarky, funny, don’t take themselves too seriously, but also smart – and Kevin Kwan in my opinion definitely qualifies. That being said, I did find China Rich Girlfriend a little lighter on the plot side (and to be honest, Crazy Rich Asians wasn’t exactly starting off with a particularly complete story anyway). There were tons and tons of brands mentioned this time around, which was overwhelming. But still a really fun read and recommended for anybody who enjoyed Kevin’s first work, a fun beach ride, or wanting to learn a little bit about modern day Asian culture (rich or not).

What goes around comes back into fashion! I gave my Fendi baguette to my daughter. It is MINT. I had to let it go because it is truly truly small and I need room to tote my stuff! After reading your article I am going to tell her pull it out and go, CHIC!!!!!!

Thanks for the personal finance article, I really enjoyed reading it. With each paycheck, I save a large percent of it and wish I could do more, but it’s a constant struggle for me. Sometimes I feel, “What’s the point of working so hard if I can’t enjoy some of what I worked for?” Then on the other hand, after buying a handbag, I think back about how much extra money I would have had if I didn’t buy the handbag.

Completely agree with that viewpoint…I think the best is to have a good balance between the two. After all, we all end up in the same place in the end…it’s good to enjoy the journey and treat ourselves as well.

Hi Kat! Thank you for the reading recommendations. Do you recommend the Kindle and which one do you have? I think it is time for me to come out of my cave and buy some type of e-reader.

I have a Paperwhite and I HIGHLY recommend it! You will love it! I’d also recommend getting a case for it, I’ve dropped mine more times than I can count.

I have two baguettes (the classic black selleria with silver hardware and a tan baguette with gold hardware) that I use extensively. Their classic silhouette fits any occasion – from the causal to the formal (the handle can be removed to form a clutch). And they’re deceptively spacious too!

That said, I’ll be passing on the new generation of mini/micro baguettes. I just don’t think they’re priced well for what is basically a coin purse on a strap. I recommend getting a standard sized modern baguette (although their prices are terrible) or hunting down a vintage one.

How are the vintage baguettes priced? I think I may take a look on eBay!

I’d be wary of eBay because fakes abound, but The RealReal features some very nice ones in the $350-600 range. They would be cheaper on eBay, but as I’d said, watch out!

Yes I took a quick look…lots of cool limited editions but authenticity looks a little difficult to check! Thank you!

I love the array of articles you suggest in your weekend posts. It’s so much more realistic and relatable than that non-stop clothes clothes clothes posts on some other sites. I may not be able to afford a lot of the accessories and first class travel that you feature, as much as I would love to, but I love your site. It’s a nice mix of aspiration and reality for me. I loved the personal finance article, and I’m probably going to go pick up that book now because I had no idea Crazy Rich Asians had a follow up!

Do you think you’ll do more interviews in the future? I miss them. They really were fantastic.

I know you’re probably due pretty soon, so I wish you a healthy birth process 🙂

Hi Cassie! Thanks so much for your kind comments. I would love to do more interviews in the future but I kind of took a break because of my schedule recently…I hope to start back up again though!

I obviously love personal finance (my whole blog is style + money) and that book Crazy Rich Asians was one of my favourites because of all the style in there. LOL.

I’m going to check out his new book for sure.
