The Hermes Trim Bag

Today I thought I would do a review on what I’ve always believed to be a very underrated bag from Hermes – the Trim. I’ve always wanted one of these, but each time ended up getting distracted by something else shiny. I finally ended up borrowing one of my mom’s – to be specific the Trim II model – for a few months, so now am able to give an educated review!

Hermes Trim II Bag

The Trim is one of Hermes’ most classic designs, and is very reminiscent of the Gucci ” Jackie O” bag. There’s been various iterations of this style over the years, and I believe the one I had was the “Trim II” – the differences from the original Trim being a wider base and profile for increased room, as well as a zip top for added security and ease of use.

By the way – I love the color combination of this particular bag too, Gris Tourterelle with gold hardware. Dreamy!

Hermes Trim II Inside

The inside of the Trim is a pretty free space, with one open pocket and another zip pocket. I think this makes it a great all around tourist bag – it sits under your arm so it’s quite secure already, and your passport and other valuable documents can go in the zip.

Hermes Trim What Fits Inside Bag

And finally – all the various items that can fit inside (and more). This is pretty much what I carry in the Trim day to day – any more and the bag does start to bulge out a bit, due to its sleek profile!

I tried to take a few photos of the Trim on me for people to see, but modeling the bag on my currently mini blimp like frame really didn’t do it justice. So instead, here are some great ladies that wear this bag well!

First up – Kelly Rutherford. I always think she has a great wardrobe, and she really knows what colors suit her. She’s using the same exact Trim model that I showed above – the Trim II.

Kelly Rutherford Trim

But as well as Kelly wears hers, it’s hard to compete with one of the ultimate heavyweights – Jackie O.

Jackie O Trim

Jackie O’s Trim is a Trim I style (no wider base or zipper), in Barenia and Toile. Gorgeous, no? This version and combination of the Trim is actually one of my favorites – it just looks so smooth and sleek. I actually think the wider base of the Trim II sometimes makes it look a little more mature at times, whereas the Trim I’s silhouette always looks clean and modern.

Jackie O Trim Bag

Overall, I think the Trim is a great bag from Hermes, and one that I would recommended. Sadly, I don’t think this bag is in major production right now, but a major plus is that it is frequently available on eBay and other resale sites at great prices. And by great prices, I mean well under retail (which I believe now would be between $4K-$5K). A quick perusal of eBay recently found some Trim Is and Trim IIs in great condition, most around $1,500 and under.

What do you think of the Trim?

Hi there! I just recently found your blog and devoured the archives in a matter of days! I love your in-depth reviews and my shopping list has grown exponentially since becoming a reader! One question: could you do a post or just quick response of what you carry in your purse? I know you do a quick snapshot to show what fits in the purse you are reviewing. But what do you carry in the leopard purse and the Goyard wallet-case? Also, would love a post on how you keep yourself organized for work and personal to-do’s.

Looking forward to new posts and hope you and the baby are feeling well!

Love your Faure le Page gun pouch. What do you normally put in there? Did you get anything else from there? Thanks

I love a shoulder bag! Specifically one that fits right under the arm. I have not purchased any Hermes, because so few of their bag are shoulder bags (I’m a LV girl). I loved your review and will definitely keep an eye out! The color you have is so versatile – although that blue makes me swoon!

Thank you! The blue is fabulous and I think more versatile than it may appear at first glance!

I love, love, love my Trims. I have a few in various colors but my favorite is the Jackie O barenia and toile combo, which I use on weekends all summer. I love love love it. So easy to wear. I wish they would bring it fully back – I think the only style you can get from H now is plain black. I bought several of mine on the resale market; the barenia/toile is about a decade old and is a gift from my mother. Love the Trim!!

The trim came first not the Gucci. And Jackie is wearing the trim. Not the Gucci

Hi Kat! Love that you reviewed the underrated Trim. I have a Trim II also, in Rouge H deerskin, and I love it. Comfortable to wear and Rouge H goes with so much, even many prints. I missed out on a Barenia recently and am regretting it.

Am I the only one that things this bag is ‘meh’? Not a fan of the shape and size – it looks like a bunch of hobos out there that I’ve thought were not nice enough to buy. The 2K price on this is annoying too – why not stack your bundles and go for the Garden Party?

Hi Lilian, I understand your comment (and thanks for saying it respectfully!) and I do think that in certain colors/shapes and with certain outfits, the Trim can look a bit matronly. However I do have to give it props for being one of the first hobos of this design – one of the reasons it may seem more ubiquitous now is that so many came after it!

I own a couple of The Gucci Jackie bags, and I much prefer them. The hardware on this one just doesn’t look substantial enough.

I think it’s a fabulous bag. Just started using mine again , Trim 31 in Rouge H Epsom and it looks and carries brilliantly . Wearing cropped jeans and ballet flats with it , and I don’t think it looks matronly at all!

I own four Trims, different models and sizes, and it is my favorite H bag. It’s so easy to carry. I had an old belt cut to be abble to convert my black one to crossbody, but it’s so perfectly designed, it’s more comfortable to carry on the shoulder. These are my travel bags, can carry them comfortably for hours. Thanks for the review! Your mum’s GT is beautiful!

What a good idea to convert it to crossbody! The Trim is a great bag, you are lucky to have 4!

Kat, I came across this review because I was wondering if anyone had reviewed Hermes’ latest rendition of the Trim which came out last year in 2020. Would be amazing if you do so, if you decide to get it. It looks like a Trim I from Jackie O, but only cross-body. Also there is now a duo version which also looks really nice!
