The Renaissance

Have any of you ever not shopped at a place for years and years…only to re-discover it down the line, and happily end up discovering a lot of new items?

This has happened to me a few times before. It happens every few seasons years or so with Chanel (which is about as often as I can afford to buy the clothes). It also happened with Saks…which I was refused to shop at for years due to weird service and strange policies, but which I really feel has gotten it together lately.

Recently, and on a slightly less expensive front, it’s happened with the chain store LOFT. I wandered in earlier in my pregnancy, because I had been told they had a dedicated maternity section and lots of coupon codes. I started out with one dress…and then found myself returning back for more. And even picking out a few more dresses, for after maternity. And eyeing some shorts, and beach wear as well.

In short – LOFT has a lot of really cute items right now! I love the dresses, and I always get compliments on the items I have from them. Plus, even full price, items rarely exceed $100. And, there’s usually a generous (as in 40% off or more) coupon code to be found. All the dresses and prices above, are the full price by the way, and yes there’s a 40% off code right now.

Oh, and the online store usually has a bunch of petite items too. Which means the maxi dresses usually fit me in petite, no alterations. Perfection!

So yes…I’m definitely experiencing a shopping renaissance with LOFT. Before I went in a few months ago, I hadn’t bought and kept anything successfully for probably years. But now, I seem to find hit after hit. And, everything is a really nice, affordable price.

I’m a 25 year old woman standing in the fitting room line of Forever 21 to try on bikinis…

Yeah, never thought I’d be back here after my pre-teen years. But their bathing suits are cheap and I need something for my beach getaway. Sigh.

And there is a reason why I stopped shopping there all these years ago. Everything looks so bizzare on anyone over 15, and especially this over-14-year-old!

Catherine, would you care to recommend bathing suit brands for 5’8″, 130 lbs, 25 year old female? I don’t need anything with longevity in mind because I don’t like the beach much, but I am going on a tropical getaway in 3 weeks. Cheap brands would be ideal. Thank you in advance!!

Swimsuit shopping is THE WORST. My suggestions for cheapie are Target and actually Pac Sun – another teenage store but they have a lot of surf brands and sometimes they have flattering cuts. Since you have 3 weeks, I might also try to order a bunch from J.Crew and VS Swim and try them all on in the privacy of your own home, and then just return what doesn’t fit.

WHOA, I completely forgot about Target and VS! I was looking through Macy’s the other day and managed to walk away with one suit, but I surely need more as I plan to spend most days on the best/under the sea/on the beach some more.

          Thanks a lot!

And yes, nothing is worst than punishing yourself with swimsuit shopping. GAAAAHHHHH!
