1. I always love browsing on Ann Taylor, and place orders at least a few times a year. It’s so frustrating though, because for some reason, most Ann Taylor items don’t work out for me – the fit is off, or I don’t like the fabric, etc. But I keep shopping because when I do find something I like – like my favorite knit slim pants – I really like them, and end up buying multiples and multiples.
I’m very happy to say that I have found my next Ann Taylor favorite item, and yes I just bought my first multiple (I picked up my first last year) – the oversized shirt. I love this shirt because it’s perfect not just with leggings, but also underneath jackets and cardigans. The length peeking out under a cropped jacket is super chic. I just ordered my second one!
2. After running around in my Nike trainers during CES, it’s been difficult for me to go back to my high heels for daily work wear. Yeah I look a lot shorter, but my feet are in heaven! Ahhh.
As part of my justification to temporarily pack away my heels, I came across this article from the Daily Mail about how stilettos may cause premature aging and arthritis in your knees later in life. This then started a frenzied Google search where I came across example after example of women warning their younger selves not to wear too many heels. Any opinions?
3. I was utterly fascinated by this NY Times article about the “jet set life” of Brad Kroenig, one of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite male models….for now (cue ominous music). Seriously, if you have 10-30 minutes free, depending on your reading spree – read it!
4. Have any of you read The Girl On The Train, by Paula Hawkins? It’s being hailed as the next Gone Girl, and since I was recently trapped on a plane for 11 hours without a new set of movies from United, I decided to give it a try.
I’m happy to report that The Girl On The Train was very entertaining and kept me interested through the end of the book, though I will say that I liked Gone Girl better. Still a very nice mystery/thriller and good for anybody looking for some nice beach reading (and if you’re on the beach, lucky you!).

January 30, 2015 at 8:14 amYes yes yes re the heels. I put the really high heels away when I had my first child at 31. So glad I did! It’s like wearing sunscreen – do the smart thing now and you will thank yourself later. I wear very expensive, very pretty flats and low heels (and expensive tights, which do wonders) – you lose a little legginess, but the tradeoff is so worth it.

January 30, 2015 at 1:51 pmI wear Chloe and Lanvin a lot – not a ton of support but they are comfortable. I like Valentino Rockstuds too. For more comfortable/supportive flats, I like a small French brand called Thierry Rabotin; most of their shoes are hideous and orthopedic looking but some of the flats (Gwyneth, Gem) are pretty and very comfortable; also like their low heels.

January 30, 2015 at 9:07 amI just love your blog. Seriously. There’s always something that I enjoy, and it’s a great mix of style and travel without being vapid or unapproachable. I mean, you have amazing taste, and I’m on more of a Target and Fairfield Inn budget, but you link to great articles, great recommendations, and help me learn to hone in on valuable pieces worth saving for…which I will. Cheers, girl!

January 30, 2015 at 10:47 amHey I am a newcomer to this blog and so glad to come across this heels vs flats topic. Besides the fact that high heels are just look SO much better and elevate the whole appearance instantly, ( look at VB,,, do you think she can still look that amazing without the heels? Of course no need to do stiletto all the time, but a regular heels can do the magic as well. Sometimes I cover her shoes with my fingers on the picture, and the outfit doesn’t look that cool almost all the time). I am very curious that if anyone feel the same way with me – I actually find the “complete” flats are quite uncomfortable. I like the shoes- no matter what kind, at least has some heels with it, it could be a 2” wedges or something, but at least has some height at the back, otherwise I feel quite uncomfortable. Anyone else has the same feeling with me?

January 30, 2015 at 11:10 amLoved the daily Mail article about heels! It is true that men will help a woman wearing stiletto heels, over one wearing flats. That’s because the one wearing heels needs all the help she can get.. 🙂

January 30, 2015 at 1:31 pmI have serious flat feet and I swear by Cole Haan ballet flats, they have Nike air technology and comfy leather footbeds. Ferragamo Varina’s are awesome as well. I hear AGLs are pretty comfy. Cole Haan use to make the Chelsea low pump, they were about net 2 in (after factoring in the platform) and the most comfortable pump ever.

January 30, 2015 at 2:06 pmI Totally agree that Nike has some super comfy shoes! On weekends when I’m just doing quick errands or groceries, I always go to my Nike every since I bought a new pair last year. I keep them in my car actually….

January 30, 2015 at 5:59 pmI’m a total convert to flats and low-heels since I’ve gotten older! I think the tallest heel I commonly wear not is 2 inches compared to the 4 inches of my past. Generally I reach for either flat boots for the winter or my amazing old lady flats that feel like clouds on my feet (I swear they’re more comfortable than my sneakers).
Part of my motivation to switch is also that I don’t walk as much in heels and I wanted to get in more exercise as part of my routine workday. So I feel like not only do you run into issues with your joints and feet potentially, you also aren’t as active which may have long-term negative effects. Just embrace the flats 🙂

January 31, 2015 at 12:30 pmI wear heels out to dinner on the weekend only, it’s ballet flats or booties during the week for me. I like the madewell skimmers from a couple seasons ago better than all the lanvin, agl and other expensive ones I’ve tried on. Sometimes I find some unusual brands at Nordstrom that work well too.
