Weekend Update

Sale PSA: Some great items went on sale today! First is a light tweed/terry mix knit jacket from Caslon, perfect for layering and in three great neutral colors, now under $40, next is a thicker but still soft and cozy sweater scuba jacket from Vince in gray and black, now 40% off. A great armor print neoprene dress from Clover Canyon is now nicely under $200, and finally if you’re starting to layer up for fall, I’d check out these classic wool/cashmere shawls from Nordstrom – they’re a staple for me at work, in my car, on planes, at home – now under $80,

1. I recently had a reader ask for a good wedding guest dress under $300, and I loved the one we found so much that I had to share.

The dress is by Tadashi Shoji, a brand which I’ve gone to throughout the last few years for gowns for both myself and friends. I like Tadashi because the brand’s gowns are usually nice quality, while still being affordably priced. The dress above is well under $300, and comes in a huge array of colors, sizes, and even petites!

I do find that Tadashi runs a bit larger at times, so I usually size down if I’m in between…just my experience, by the way.

2. I really enjoyed this interview with the ever-so-cool Emmanuelle Alt, via The Telegraph. I found her take on many different aspects of fashion refreshing, and found myself re-reading certain bits so I wouldn’t forget some plum pieces of advice. My personal favorites? She doesn’t get her happiness from collecting shoes, and she loves George Michael. What a woman!

3. Those interested in true crime reporting (yes, I’m one of them) will find this Vanity Fair article – Murder Made in Monaco, about the assassination of billionaire Helene Pastor, the richest woman in Monaco, a fascinating read. After finishing the article, I was surprised that it was the first time I had ever heard of the crime – it really does read, as someone quoted in the article describes, like an Agatha Christine article.

4. I’ve recently gone back into a graphic novel reading phase, and started going through all of my old favorites again. I thought I’d recommend one of my first series that I ever consistently read, Fables.

I love this series which has stayed consistently good and which upends all of the traditional fables that we all grew up with. Volume One is a good read for anyone looking to start getting into graphic novels…and also for any fairytale fan! Enjoy and I wish you all a great weekend!

Those cashmere shawls are a steal.
I have them in every color of the rainbow, but my favorite ones are Trehearne and Brar! Pricey but so beautiful.
