Weekend Update

1. I had some questions about what other bucket bag I was considering after my Mansur Gavriel post, so I thought I would share it here. I have yet to receive a perfect specimen (unfortunately the first one was banged up), but here it is!

The bag is by Saint Laurent and at $1,290, I dare say that it is quite a reasonable price for the brand. Lined in suede, adjustable straps (but not too much), studs on the feet, subtle gold gromments – what’s not to love? The damaged bag I received fit my giant new iPhone, my sunglasses case, keys, a small wallet, and a lipstick.

Bill Blass

2. Remember Bill Blass? I was thinking about what happened to the man and the brand the other day, and in my searching came across this great article via the NY Times: The Long Fall In The House of Blass.

3. Two fantastic recent articles from Vanity Fair. The first details the theft of a Stradivarius violin, and the bizarre crime (and criminal mastermind behind it). The second is a very detailed and well done reporting of the Ebola epidemic to date, and why it was able to spiral to the proportions it has today.

4. I was recently flipping through a stack of books at a friend’s, looking for something to read, and came across The Beach. Did I pick it up because I recognized the title from the Leonardo DiCaprio movie? Well, okay, yes! I had never actually seen the movie before, so thought reading the book would satisfy my interest in both.

I have to say, it was pretty good! A very nice thriller story and anybody who is a wanderlust or a travel lover will recognize the excitement and desire to just go off and have an unplanned adventure. A nice read, especially for anybody who has visited (or wants to visit) Thailand/Southeast Asia.

Does the Saint Laurent bucket bag close better/tighter than the Mansur Gavriel bag? I do like the look of this one better. 🙂

I would say they’re about the same, relatively speaking – however the SL has a little leather closure that helps to “zip up” the straps if that makes sense, versus just having to tie them.

is it illusion or what? This mini bucket from SL looks quite a lot smaller than the MG one.

It is MUCH smaller. There is a medium size but I love the baby size 🙂

I want to put a vote in for the Vaughn crossbody bucket bag by Anya Hindmarch. I got mine this past summer and LOVE it. Very light, the grey/Taupe is beautiful (and the new burgundy is as well), it is light, closes securely and gets compliments wherever I go. No feet, but otherwise perfect!
