Fall Purchase List

First I’d like to give my apologies for the blog being down for the last few days – I had a ton of issues with the site for unknown reasons, but after some struggle, it is now back up and working. If you ever encounter any issues, please feel free to let me know! I’ve thankful for all the readers who let me know about their problems accessing the site.

I just came back from a short trip to Switzerland and Paris for work, where I got to spend time with some of the most chic people ever. Seriously! It was very busy for me from morning until night, but at the end of each day at least, I got to walk around the city and enjoy the inspirational surroundings. I also had some time on the train to put together my fall wishlist – here it is (and I’d love to hear yours too).

Burberry

1. Navy trench. The cliche about Parisians and navy is so true in my experience – I see it almost as much as black, it’s just as chic of a color, and slightly more “unexpected”. I have way more than enough black clothing in my closet (although I wouldn’t mind another LBD…anyway, off topic) and a light navy layer would find lots of wear in the fall for me. My favorite version right now is a cotton/wool mix classic silhouette from Burberry – and hey, look how good it’ll look with all the black in my closet!

2. Warm poncho. I am a sweater addict, and recently have started to see the light on ponchos as well. A big poncho + leggings are my favorite outfit to wear on planes, lazy days, or feeling under the weather in the fall/winter temperatures. I love this one from Ralph Lauren – it’s big enough to give you lots of cover for leggings, but not super billowy to the point of shapeless. I also love the kangaroo pocket and the button detailing near the neck. The price isn’t bad either (relatively speaking).

3. Draped trousers. I never was super interested in draped trousers (tried them once, didn’t work out) until I saw them on a colleague in Paris and they just looked so, so good on her. She was even my height! She wore them all day –  to meetings, at lunch sitting on the grass, and they still looked perfect after a 4+ hour train ride together. I came home determined to  find a pair that would work for myself, and I’ll be trying out least one of the two above, from J.Crew.

4. Silver bracelet. While I still love my chunkier, larger bracelets (think the Hermes CDC), lately I’ve also been wanting to add some more delicate pieces. I thought this Ippolita bangle would be a great way to add some little specks of color to my otherwise usually monochrome outfits, and I think it’d look good both dangling around the wrist and pushed higher up on the arm.

What pieces are on your fall wishlists?

Can I just say how jealous I am that you get to have work trips in Paris? I definitely love a good trench coat and still kick myself for not getting an impossibly chic Burberry Prorsum coat at the Foxtown outlets in Switzerland.

As a mother, I’ve found my budget strained by the need to outfit two adorable kiddos. So the things I’ve picked up for Fall include: The Black Jacquard pencil skirt from the Altuzarra for Target collection. It performs all the feats of my Gucci Pencil skirt, but I’m less likely to cry if it gets stained. I just picked up a great dusty pink drape neck coat from Limited from the “Scandal” collection. I’d been coveting the pink or blue wool coats from Gucci, and this hits at a better price point for me. Recently I did pick up Helmut Lang coated “Halo” jeans that I love and I am on the look out for some great cashmere to add to the collection. LOVE your post Katherine. Always a great inspiration!
