Weekend Update

1. Can I share with you all one of the most beautiful floaty maxi dresses I’ve seen lately?

I tried on this Melissa Odabash dress awhile ago but was unable to locate it online – because I was looking under “dress” and not “cover-up”! In my opinion it’s actually a great dress too – there’s a light layer underneath that makes sure you’re covered, and the material is very soft and feels high quality. Recommended.

By the way, the tote above is from Tory Burch and it was the first time I’ve ever seen it – though of course it appears to be sold out everywhere currently!

2. I found this article about luxury price hikes quite interesting, from CNBC. There’s a lot of interesting nuggets in there – like the fact that luxury houses have hiked prices faster in Europe than Asia, in order to reduce the huge price differences that can sometimes occur. For me personally I am sensitive to price hikes, and I’ve walked away from items in the past year that I wouldn’t have a few price hikes ago. It’s hard to buy when you know an item was 30% less just two years ago.

3. For anyone whose ever been to a Masala Dosa location, or is interested in Indian food…small business success stories…or true crime..I’d recommend this interesting article via the NYTimes, “Masala Dosa to Die For.” I’ve been to several locations with friends and have always enjoyed the meal…though I definitely didn’t know the controversial back story surrounding its founder.

4. Speaking of food….I shared a photo of some home made beef noodle soup on my Instagram earlier this week, and received a few requests for recipes. Actually to give fair credit it was my mom who gave me the recipe, and Mr. Feather who made it!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

My mom’s recipe is partially in Chinese and we added some steps as well. Before typing it all out I researched online and found a very similar and much more clearly documented recipe from Food 52. We used no oil (the fat from the shank was enough), baby bok choy instead of cabbage and no tomatoes. If you have an Asian supermarket near you, I might also suggest substituting your favorite noodles.

Enjoy! This is my favorite food and dinner meal, ever.

Thank you so much for putting up a recipe for beef noodle soup. It’s now Pinned to my recipe board! I love great Asian food and, sadly, live in a part of the US where excellent, authentic Asian food pretty much doesn’t exist. I always loved reading your posts regarding your love for noodles and was tapping my fingers for you to finally post a recipe. 😉

The white dress is perfection. Classy and casual all at once.

BTW, what kind of noodles do you recommend?

I know what you mean about the price hikes. They are brutal. I was trying to buy an Hermes Garden Party (similar to one you carry) and it went up 500-600 USD because I missed the price increase warning when I was trying to decide what bag I wanted. So I ended up not getting my first Hermes item as a bag, but did still cave and get a Clic H even though the price was 200+ more than it used to be say 2 years ago!

Probably helps, I’ve always wanted the Clic H because of my initial! And I can afford it now, vs. two years ago. But luxury pricing is brutal, although it makes sense (there’s a significant price diff between even Europe and US for some Luxury houses! I got my Goyard St. Louis for about 700 USD abroad when it was selling for $1100 + tax.).

It went up that much? Yikes! That always happens though (and has happened to me many times). I always try not to think about how much something luxury cost just a few years back. The Clic H is lovely – enjoy and wear in good health!

I go to Saravana Bhavan in Manhattan. I love vegetarian, and knew it was a successful international chain Indian McDonald’s but had no idea about the founder. I was enjoying hearing his success story but then it took a dark turn. He is not a business man to celebrate but a sociopath. Money can buy freedom in corrupt governments. What a great read thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome! I’ve been to that location too actually, quite good.
