My Most Worn Shoes

A reader (hello LM!) recently asked me what pair of shoes I wear the most, and how often I’ve worn them. Right away I knew the answer: my Louboutin Simple pumps. I bought my first pair, in plain black leather, back in 2009 and I’ve worn them to the ground! They’ve been to the cobbler multiple times and have taken me through a slight snow storm in Boston, a huge downpour in Moscow, dreadful days navigating multiple casinos in Las Vegas during CES, and more.

I love them and wear them on average probably twice a week. Just look at my black pair! You can definitely see that the leather has been loved and worn.

Louboutin Simple 85 pumps (in black leather, and patent nude)

After responding to LM’s email, I realized that I did wear these shoes an incredible amount and so recently added another pair in an easy color, pinkish nude, to my closet. I know that Louboutin offers more scintillating styles with higher heels and vampier cuts (like my favorite evening pump, the Decollete), but seriously for me nothing beats the Simple for comfort. I’ve tried other brands both high and low and these are my favorite. The 85mm heel height is my favorite as well, the right balance of a good enough height while still feeling good at the end of a long work day. I know some women claim that the 100mm is just as comfortable, but those extra 15mm make a difference for me!

What are the heeled shoes that you wear the most, they can take you through a long day with your feet still feeling good?

PS: The best and closest show I’ve found to the Simple at a much more friendly price point (~$130) have been the Corso Como Del pumps – the patent versions are always a nice option but I’ve experienced inconsistent leather quality. Their regular leather pumps have all worn well for me.

I have a pair of pointy Corso Como black heels that I found at TJ Maxx. They are really comfortable. But my favorite heels lately have been Jcrew Everly in various style/ leather and color. I’m still saving towards my first pair of CL!

I can’t wear heels for a whole day as I have very painful bunions, that’s why I don’t splurge on expensive shoes (sadly)!

Have you ever tried the perfect pump from Ann Taylor?

Hi Irene, you know I have but I haven’t had good luck with them…they always seem a bit tough to wear in, however I’ve only tried the patent. Do you like them?

I haven’t tried them yet (AT massively messed up on an order) but am really curious. I’d tried the patent Corso Como ones a while back and thought they weren’t as “delicate” looking as the Loubs.

You are very right about the patent Corso not being as delicate..the leather also isn’t as good. They are still comfortable and I keep a pair at work as some emergency heels..

I really like Jimmy Choo shoes. I have high and not-so-high heels for various outfits at work. My first pair is my workhorse, which has been working with absolute loyalty for about 5 years and has only been to the cobbler once. My feet never complained after a long day in them, even if I had long walks or even short runs between offices. That gave me confidence to grow my Choo collection. I have tried many other brands but just keep going back to Choo. Love it!

I wear my black suede Manolo Blahnik BB pumps at least twice a week. They are comfortable enough for long days in court! Love them!

You know I haven’t been able to find a pair of BBs that fully work for me yet – I think I am just in between a 6.5 and 7 and they each don’t fit me fully…I hope I can add a pair someday!

Such elegant shoes! My top vote for heels goes to my Marc by Marc Jacobs 4-inch wedges – I could sleep in them. I also love my 4-inch See by Chloe colourblocked heels in navy with white and mustard accents. The 1-inch platform makes all the difference.

You’re right that a platform helps so so much! Especially when walking on hard/uneven surfaces.

I’ve been thinking about getting the Simple 85s for a while as well. Perhaps I should bite the bullet in France!
Ooh and I COMPLETELY agree – an extra 15 cm can be a big difference. I love his 120mm shoes, but they are too high for me!

p.s. Random, but Ann Taylor makes surprisingly comfortable and cute shoes. I was really bummed when I bought the wrong size patent nude shoes and they subsequently sold out!

I’ve been meaning to try CL Simples for the longest time but my lifestyle just doesn’t justify making the purchase.

I love the Simple – in leather. I guess I feel like leather is more of a year-round texture than patent leather? I am such a traditionalist. haha.

The leather is softer out of the box, it’s funny because I think patent leather is actually more year – round – it stays dry when you’re caught walking through a puddle!

I have been debating about getting CL shoes… now that i’m financial at a place where purchasing them would be a drop in the bucket… but I’m SOOOOO frugal that I just can bring myself to do it. The other reason is I feel like I can’t wear them to work because the red heel might be showy ( i work in the male dominated IT sector) did you ever feel like this wearing your CL’s to work?
