I bought this little H&M poncho a long time ago for only $15 or so after a 25% coupon. Amazing price! I finally got to wear it this weekend when it cooled down considerably. The only issue is that it’s acrylic which I try to stay away from – my acrylic items have always fallen apart after a while for me in the past and so now I try and stick with natural fibers. Does anybody else have the same issues with acrylic or other synthetic fibers?

Missoni for Target pumps (the non Target version here)
Hermes bag
VCA necklace

My Missoni for Target pumps. I actually really like these and thought they were a nice deal ($40) for actual suede with a leather sole. However, they do require some breaking in. The soft suede tricked me into thinking they were comfy shoes so I wore them when walking around shopping and by the second hour, I was dying. Good thing I always carry a few emergency bandaids in my makeup kit!

Some readers may recognize that I love my little Van Cleef Alhambra necklaces. My favorite feature about the mother of pearl 20 motif one I have is that it’s actually made up of two of the shorter 10 motif strands – so sometimes, I choose to split it up and wear a shorter strand like I’d wear a string of pearls. You can see the long version here. Also, the 10 motif strands are exactly 50% of the cost of one long 20 motif necklace, so you can always start with the shorter one and then add another later on.

  1. i'm so into poncho's! love this one…what a great color!

    xx

  2. I actually stay away from acrylic only because they just don't last. I just wait for sales and grab natural fiber knitwear which sometimes cost no more than the acrylic ones. I just love your VCA Alhambra necklace. It has been on my wish list for a loooong time.

  4. thank you ever so much!!!xxxlove the colour!

  5. GREAT look! Elegant and chic.
I dislike man made fibres at the best of times and stick rigidly to natural materials. However, in recent times, the quality has improved a lot, enough for me to accept a small % in certain items but that's it. I'm all about longevity so there's no point.

  6. I love your beautiful poncho!

  7. I have that same poncho in navy blue. Acrylic isn't the greatest quality but for $15 who cares? It looks fabulous on you! http://www.casualglamorous.com

  8. The little Missoni pattern on the front of the shoe is just to die for! Love that it's so understated, but you still KNOW it's Missoni.

  9. This doesn't even look like a poncho. You look very chic in your black and tan combo!

  10. Cute look! I really like the Missoni for Target shoes!

  11. Adore your shoes & birkin xoxo

  12. I love love love ponchos! I adore this look. Love the color, love the handbag and those shoes are super cute and stylish!

  13. You look so chic! Love this look. And I stay away from acrylic as well, for that same reason. Sometimes, though, I can't resist when the piece is right.

  14. I've actually found some acrylic items to hold up really well… maybe they were just flukes? I love those Missoni for Target heels… they certainly look comfy. Too bad they were so deceiving!

  15. I LOVE love love your ponsho! you look si pretty in it :) Those shoes are so adorable too :) I wish I had a target! x

  16. Love the outfit! The shoes look great!

  17. i am loving it!

  18. The worst part about acrylic items is they pill like crazy! And unlike my wool or cashmere items that pill, I just can't seem to get rid of the little fuzzballs. I try and buy natural fibers just for longevity's sake.

  19. Love the color of that poncho! I don't think I saw it at my H&M or else I would have snatched it up. Those pumps look great on you – I saw them at my local target but unfortunately they were a couple sizes too big. They did feel hard when I was trying them on, thank goodness for handy band-aids in the bag!

  20. That is such a smart Poncho! I agree.. they fall apart after a few washes :-( but then when they are new, they are pretty and entice me and so I endup buying them!

  21. stylish autumn look! xooo

  22. That sweater is gorgeous. I agree with the natural fibers being better. Cotton is the best for me. Wool is super itchy, which highly limits my sweater purchasing.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. That was really sweet. It's great to meet you.

  23. love this outfit!

  24. This is a great BLOOG! Keep up the good work!

  25. I love that this look is totally chic but entirely comfortable.

  26. Love that sweater and what a deal! I usually buy new sweaters each winter. Whether they're acrylic or cashmere, Northeast winters mean a lot of wear and tear.

  27. I love the color of the poncho on you! And it goes great with those Missoni shoes! xo

  28. I haven't really had that problem much with synthetics, but sometimes I do find that H&M items fall apart a little too quickly… But, that doesn't stop me from shopping there haha. And this poncho looks thick and substantial, I think it will hold out for quite a while. Of course, it's beautiful as well :)

  29. I tend to stay away from acrylic too! I have the most fabulous styled vest, but it's made of acrylic so it's looking pretty shabby after only a coupleof wears. The natural fibers hold up so much better.

And I do love you VCA necklace! It is perfectly peeking out of your poncho! :)

  30. Great style! You look cute in the poncho!

  31. The only reason I bought this same sweater is because I love everything about its style. The acrylic is a huge turnoff but the $20 price tag is reasonable enough to wear the sweater for as long as it lasts. So $20 for a great style? I think it's worth it.

My fall/winter wardrobe mainly consists of wool and cashmere (and blends of the two). This is probably the only acrylic thing I own, actually.

Your whole outfit is very pretty – I love the square toe of the pumps.

  32. Just popping in to say thanks for reading/commenting :) You know, I'm not a big fan of the Missoni for Target line, but those shoes are so cute! Nice pattern without being too over-the-top. Love the poncho too!

  33. wow I just discovered your blog and really like it. Think you have great style and am following now! Definitely a new fan! You are very inspiring
Pop up by my page when you get a chance xoxo Tamara

  41. Sometimes I find acrylic to be itchy, as I have sensitive skin. Other times it works out fine, or I layer something under it. Love the Missoni for Target pumps, and I also carry Band Aids in my bag! Such a smart thing to do!

  42. I love that poncho. I bought the navy blue one a while back as well and wore it when it was still warm because it's just so cute. Every time I walk into H&M I am tempted to buy the khaki colored one as well! You look so chic! I love your Missoni for Target pumps – I didn't even get to see these in the store but I did manage to snag the last pair of ballet flats they had. :D

    Have a great day!

    xoxo, Ria

  43. gorgeous poncho! and I love how you mix bargain buys with high-end items! the missoni for target pumps are lovely as well :)

  44. I don't really have an issue with synthetic fibers. My experience has been all in the way I wash them- gentle cycle.

The Missoni pumps are a fab addition to your ensemble.

  45. Hello, lady! It's been a while. I'm so OVER uncomfortable shoes lately. I've really had it (definite sign of old age!)
I like the 'winter' colors in your outfit.

  46. I love the shoes. I actually really like the non-Target version. I tried on a pair they had left in my size but those wear not made for girls with wide feet.

  47. We're shoe twins today :) Love the way you styled this look – very cute!

  48. definitely noticed the van cleef!!!

  49. The tunic is fabulous. I've had problems with synthetics pilling and I find them to be heat trappers so try to avoid them in warm weather. Have a great day. Blessings…Mary

  50. Looove this outfit, will have to try a sweater and black pants like that with my Missoni for Target pair! And you are so right– those little buggers were painful! I'm hoping I can break mine in soon!

  51. Those Missoni for Target pumps are amazing! I love the neutral look you've paired them with, so classic and pretty :)

  52. You look fantastic and love the mix of affordable clothing with your "I am so jealous" hermes bag. Acrylic is in everything nowadays! Of course it will pill and slightly fall apart but the price of it was awesome!

MIssoni shoes for Target look great on you. I got a pair of flats – haven't tried the outside afraid they will hurt so great tip on bringing some band aids :)

  53. What a perfect camel! I don't usually do acrylic but sometimes a cute style wins out'

  61. By the way, I've passed on an award to you…..do check it out! :)

  62. Love this look!

  63. That is an amazing poncho sweater at an amazing price. SCORE! love how you wore it with the black pants and the Missoni for Target pumps. I keep emergency band aids and Band Aid block for shoe emergencies in my purse. :)

  64. I think my twin sister has the same poncho (only in navy) – very cute!
I also shy away from acrylics. I don't necessarily have a problem with them falling apart, as much as the fact that they don't allow my skin to breathe very well. Nonetheless, it's much more economical so I cave every now and then ;)
    You look lovely!

  65. Such a stylish way to wear a poncho! Considering how bland and unflattering one could be.

  66. great color! I love the poncho. I feel ya on the acrylic or synthetic fibers but sometimes if the price is good, I just go with it :)

  67. great color! I love the poncho. I feel ya on the acrylic or synthetic fibers but sometimes if the price is good, I just go with it :)

  68. Yay, I have those shoes too! Love them even though I had to add padding for the ball of my feet and one on the end to grip my heels when I walk. I am determined to make these work!

  69. I love this whole look, but that poncho is killer!

  70. When I was younger I'd dream of getting stuck in a department store overnight to model different looks. –I want to get stuck in your apartment. Lol, now to think of how I can get stuck there… that's the tricky part. :D

Love your VCA jewelry –& great tip about getting the 10 motifs bc you can always connect it with another to make it long!

    <3

  71. Love your look and you paired your Missoni heels so nicely with the leggings! I learned something new about the Van Cleef necklace, getting the shorter and then adding on!

  72. Hey Katherine! Thank you for finding me! :) Your comment is too sweet. :)

I love your style. Great steal on the poncho. I like the colour and how its not too over powering. The Missoni shoes are cute. Good deal too. And the bag…well what can I say…I wish I could afford that one day. :)

Love your blog and following back! :)

  73. Beautiful! Love the mix of high and low. I wish I lived near an H&M… I always try to hit one up when I go to a bigger city, but end up being overwhelmed by the crowds and the racks and racks of choices.
