Wow, having a three day weekend was awesome…I’m always so happy to wake up on Sunday and realize that it isn’t the last day of the weekend. I was so sad that Labor Day was over that I immediately looked up the next US Federal Holiday – apparently it’s Columbus Day on October 10th but I’m pretty sure it’s one of those dates that I still have to report to work (do you all get it off??)
This weekend I unearthed this top and skirt from a little pile in my closet referred to, “items purchased on super sale at J.Crew that I have yet to wear.” Well, I think I’ve worn the skirt a few times. I really have to stop shopping these mega sales unless there are specific items that I really want.
J.Crew top and skirt, YSL sandals, Balenciaga bag
On another completely unrelated topic….many years ago I vowed to become a better cook (well…to just become a cook at all in any form…) but I have made very slow progress, and living like a derelict grad student eating ramen noodles the last two years hasn’t helped either. I went out grocery shopping this weekend intending to pick out ingredients, but really – how am I supposed to compete with the awesomeness that is Trader Joe’s? Their frozen food technology is just way too advanced for me, not to mention their excellent pricing. This was our dinner last night and I doubt I could have made anything nearly as tasty, for nearly as cheap:
Ahhh! It was carb heaven! What are your favorite Trader Joe’s items…so that I can try them out next time??

Hahahah love your modern spin on cooking!
I must say though, your outfit looks absolutely amazing. I would never have come up with something like layering a longish shirt over a skirt. Why do you always look so good???

Okay, this list is pretty lengthy, but these are some of my tried and true Trader Joe's favorites:
Cilantro Lime Dressing (so good on a salad with shrimp!)
Pimento Cheese
Dark chocolate covered pretzel slims
Mini chicken tacos
Any of the asian style beef dishes
The Gorgonzola pizza – I add chicken and hot sauce for a "buffalo style" pizza
The frozen organic brown rice is great for a quick dish. It's already cooked so you just have to heat it up
Soyaki sauce is a great marinade for chicken or beef or veggies
The vodka sauce is out of control!
I am sure there are more that I am not thinking of but this is a good starting point!
omg tv dinners! another thing i'm looking forward to when i transfer to the states, lets hope that there is trader's joe around, like u said they are good. and so easy for a student .
i LOVE your necklace

Not very dinner-like, but TJ has these amazing ice cream bon bon balls. The chocolate ones are heavenly.
Hey! I think I saw you at nm in palo alto on Sunday! So fun to see people in the flesh!
As for trader joe's…their frozen pasta's are wonderful..I get the penne arrbiatta! Also, their frozen rice is great too because all you have to do is pop a pack in the microwave, and voila…perfectly cooked jasmine or brown rice.
Hope that helps!
Cheers, wei
Fantastic shoes! Great casual outfit. Love your share of your dinner cooking. . . I did the same vow to be a better cook, but I have a hard time doing something I don't love
So my husband is the cook. Trader Joes has the best sourdough bread!! I used to live in SF and missed it and found it at Joes. Try it, it is delicious!!

Cute neckpiece!
Nice outfit!! I really like your necklace!
Cute outfit – loving the sandals.
From TJ's – I love the Frozen Orange chicken. I just add bell peppers to it for my Veggie intake.

I'm a dessert person. You should try TJ Chocolate covered bananas, Apple Blossoms ( both in freezer section ) and Hibiscus flowers (seasonal).
I love too many TJ's items~! The Truffle Brownie Baking mix is excellent. I always have a box of this handy.
I love the Mahi Mahi Burgers and their frozen Mac and Cheese is amazing!
I'm a huge fan of TJ's white bean & basil hummus (w/ baby carrots and pita chips) and their three-layered dip (roasted red pepper, cheese, and pesto – I think) is always a hit at get togethers.
i am lovin the long shirt with this look.
omg I am loving all of the recommendations so far…thank you all, am writing them down for my next shopping trip…I love you TJ!!
@Anonymous ahh yes I was there! My favorite mall, did you get anything? Come say hi next time Wei
We are obsessed with Trader Joe's frozen selection! I love the quiches, the french onion soup, and the enchiladas.
PS – love the necklace!
You are right.. Sometimes I just buy something coz it is cheap!! I agree with you on the TraderJoe's frozen yumm section.. Have you tried their desserts? PannaCotta tops the list
I wish we had a Trader Joe's here… I always hear how amazing it is. Love how you paired that top with the skirt… kind of looks like a dress with a peekaboo hem!

You have to give the Heirloom tomato's at Trader Joes a try,not only are they yummy but such a great price. They are even better with the Burrata in the cheese section; sprinkle in some sprigs of basil and drizzle of balsamic dressing and you have a salad worthy of any good restaurant!
Hi Katherine, another really cute look! We don't have a trader Joe's in Canada, but i keep hearing how awesome it is. I do share your love for Indian food though, yum yum! Thanks for the post!
I "accidentally" shrunk a couple of shirt dresses. Your outfit just brought them back to life for me!
i know what you mean… i looked up my next company holiday and its not until thanksgiving! you look so classic in this outfit!! xx
me too, i love trader joe's dinners! i never end up cooking anything when i go there for groceries! doesn't help they're a couple lights away from me, grrrr.
love the outfit! so casual and fun at the same time! i don't have a day off until Thanksgiving
omg i cant believe they have frozen onigiri hahaha that's amazing!!!! def gonna have to hunt that down asap!

I'm so thankful for Trader Joe's frozen food aisle. That's what got me through college when I wanted a "home cooked" meal.
My favorites:
-Orange chicken
-Chickenless chicken nuggets
-Tiramisu in a box
-Pesto tortellini bowl
-paneer tikka masala
-gnocchi
-frozen pizzas
-mushroom fettucine pasta
-ice cream mochi (they're the cheapest for this item!)
Happy Trader Joe's shopping!
